Unfortunately we have to say goodbye to this Ford Fiesta

Bad news: one of the last three-door hatchbacks will disappear from the market later this year. The Ford Fiesta will soon be available as a five-door model.

Hatch lovers know: three doors are better than five doors. But many users think otherwise. They want a practical and compact car, and therefore one with rear doors. Demand for three-door hatchbacks has been declining dramatically over the years, so no three-door variant is available again.

Not the Netherlands anymore

Ford still offered three power doors like the Fiesta. Not in our country by the way, because here the physical difference has not been found for several years. Starting this summer, this also applies to the elevated variant: then the car manufacturer will look for a three-door version altogether, depending on European Vehicle News† It’s very surprising, because Ford has recently given the Fiesta (and the three-door version) a face enhancement. Even the lovely ST can now order elsewhere in Europe as three doors. That can’t help but be a good investment, because it won’t create much of it.

Why does it suddenly pull the plug on that Fiesta? Ford has problems with model production. There is a shortage of parts and because of several production facilities it is busy processing all the already ordered models. And because the demand for the three-door version is minimal, it is now fully integrated into the five-door Fiesta.

Ford on the MEB platform

Fiesta is being built in Cologne and Ford is now sweeping the factory. This is because it prepares itself for the manufacture of an electric vehicle that has to cross the production line from this year, and therefore space must be placed on the production routes. The car Ford will use will use the Volkswagen MEB platform. Europe’s second electric car will happen in 2024.
