When you hear the name Spyker, you probably laugh a little. The beautiful cars that the brand from Zeewolde has put on the road have been overshadowed by the never-ending problems of bankruptcy and the ill-fated looting of Saab. Jasper – also known as SpykerEnthousiast – tries to keep the focus on sports cars. He restores and maintains Spyker from all over the world. Our colleagues from RTL Autoworld went to visit him.
It all looked so good. An authentic Dutch premium car brand that we can be proud of. The cars may not have been to everyone’s taste – lots of chrome, lots of bling – but they were attractive. In 2019, several stood next to each other in the halls of the RAI during the Amsterdam International Motor Show. An impressive list, including the C8 Spyder and C8 Lavioletteof C8 Destroyerof C12 Zagato and D8 Peking-to-Paris.

Nailer buys Saab from General Motors
Jasper tries to improve Spyker’s image on his own. That took a hit because of all the financial problems. Because to keep a car manufacturer going, money has to come in. And that’s where things went wrong at Spyker. The plans of the small manufacturer were very ambitious. Detective went to Le Manscompeted in the Formula 1 Championship, bought a Saab from General Motors (!) and go public.
