VIDEO REPORT – How this Dutchman restores Spyker’s super SUV


When you hear the name Spyker, you probably laugh a little. The beautiful cars that the brand from Zeewolde has put on the road have been overshadowed by the never-ending problems of bankruptcy and the ill-fated looting of Saab. Jasper – also known as SpykerEnthousiast – tries to keep the focus on sports cars. He restores and maintains Spyker from all over the world. Our colleagues from RTL Autoworld went to visit him.

It all looked so good. An authentic Dutch premium car brand that we can be proud of. The cars may not have been to everyone’s taste – lots of chrome, lots of bling – but they were attractive. In 2019, several stood next to each other in the halls of the RAI during the Amsterdam International Motor Show. An impressive list, including the C8 Spyder and C8 Lavioletteof C8 Destroyerof C12 Zagato and D8 Peking-to-Paris.

SpykerEnthusiastic Jasper keeps cars alive

Jasper – aka Nail polish remover – he has seen them all in his workshop. He restores Spykers and even got a B6 Venator prototype running. He is currently working on Spyker’s flagship SUV – the D12 – and his workshop is full of customer cars imported or exported from around the world. Even a famous American rapper is a customer of Jasper.

Nailer buys Saab from General Motors

Jasper tries to improve Spyker’s image on his own. That took a hit because of all the financial problems. Because to keep a car manufacturer going, money has to come in. And that’s where things went wrong at Spyker. The plans of the small manufacturer were very ambitious. Detective went to Le Manscompeted in the Formula 1 Championship, bought a Saab from General Motors (!) and go public.

Victor Muller does not make concessions

Spyker went bankrupt at the end of 2014. Although CEO Victor Muller was able to reach an agreement with creditors, which changed the bankruptcy. A few years ago, Spyker – after a long radio silence – suddenly returned to the Geneva motor show. Of A precursor to C8 will come to the market and engine from Koenigsegg.
