Woman Avoids New Car Payments, Installs Apple CarPlay in Acura

TikToker going to Heaven (@purpleavocado) is in the joy of driving after deciding to upgrade his Acura (Honda’s luxury car brand, which is famous for its reliability) with a rear backup camera and Apple CarPlay system, rather than buying a new flatbed car for the latest features.

Not having high monthly car payments, especially in America’s recently destroyed economy, is a blessing that TikToker enjoys. “Me and my car payments are $0 because you can put Apple CarPlay and a backup camera in almost any car,” he captioned the clip.

He directs the video to his unit, which comes out of the car’s dash and has a large center knob, and a visible screen that allows the user to turn it from side to side.

Several other commenters replied that they, too, decided to upgrade their old cars with new infotainment systems and were very happy to do so.

“My dad put an apple car game and backup camera in my 1994 Honda Accord,” one TikToker wrote.

Another person said, “This but literally any car with bluetooth is good enough for me.”

“Putting an apple in my car was the best decision I ever made,” replied a third.

Another person wrote that their ride was also improved: “My brother put the rear star lights and apple carplay in the mines.”

If you drive a “reliable old” car, like a Toyota Camry or a Honda Civic that refuses to die, you may be tempted to sell your whip for a newer car with “luxury” features. But as much any financial analyst will tell you, buying a new car is one of the worst financial decisions you can make. The second you remove something from the lot, it drops in value significantly, and by the way interest rates are going up nowwhat you’ll pay for 2 months in new car payments may exceed what you’d spend on repairs on a tried-and-true used car.

However, it’s tempting to get a new car because of the updated amenities they can carryโ€”like a shiny new infotainment system, Bluetooth wireless calling capabilities, and a rear backup camera.

But did you know that if you have an older model car with a more standard stereo, you can install these features for probably less than the cost of paying for a brand new car? It seems like an even more attractive option when you consider that there are new car buyers out there who get stuck with high monthly payments.

How cheap is it? Let’s do some quick math.

Amazon sells this adjustable back, highly rated camera for car for $19. Now, when it comes to navigation or infotainment solutions, most people just want to use Apple Car Play or Android Auto for their navigation, phone and music needs. There are many options that people can have installed on their cars that vary in price. There are examples like this A $400 Sony that slots into your car’s lineup for a seamless drive experience, depending on the car model you have. There is other products with higher rates which sits above the dash which even offers wireless Car Play or Android Auto which costs less.

You don’t even need to know how to install these products yourself or worry about circuitry, and you can always find units that will work specifically for your car or at least fit betterโ€”and they don’t cost a fortune. a lot to keep them (or at least way down to buy a new car). Best Buy, for example, costs $150 to install rear cameras and even sell Apple Car Play receivers and “Free install” options too.

So, let’s say you went with the $19 backup camera, plus $150 to install it, and the $300 Apple Car Play system from Best Buy with free installation, you’re looking at a total of $469 to have your never-say-die car that always has been on your side with the new infotainment system.
