You can drive this Chevrolet with a V8 here for a few cents a minute

We recently calculated the cost of renting a Bugatti Veyron for a day. That hypercar is not cheap, not even for a minute. Things are different with this Chevrolet Camaro convertible.

It is the same party that has an American rental car. Like one muscle car fits, there is a gigantic 6.2-liter V8 under the hood. This is good for 407 hp, 0 to 100 sprint in 5 seconds and a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

The rental company classifies the Chevrolet Camaro as a class 1, which indicates that America is one of the cheapest cars in its range. By comparison: the 1001 hp (and very expensive) Bugatti Veyron is the only one that fills the fifth class and higher.

Does that also mean you can rent an American convertible for free? That depends a little on what you consider ‘a little cheap’. The landlord charges by the hour 100 euros excluding VAT. However, you still have to bring 500 euros to pay the deposit and 100 euros for insurance. If you are not yet 25 years old, the insurance is 200 euros.

However, you can pay less by renting a convertible for 24 hours. The insurance and deposit fees remain the same, but for the whole day you pay ‘only’ 1,000 euros. Of course this is cheaper per hour than renting a car by the hour. This means that you are now paying 42 euros per hour, which means 69 euro cents per minute. Insurance premiums and deposits will still be added.
