2023 Toyota Yaris Cross. This is not the car you know

2023 Toyota Yaris Cross. This is not the car you know

Don’t let this name fool you. The Toyota Yaris Cross 2023, which has just debuted on the other side of the world, has nothing to do with the model you know. It also looks very good.

The Japanese like to give “one example” in different dialects. The same name often lands on completely different and technically unrelated cars. Toyota Yaris Cross 2023, which started today, is a perfect example. It’s a hybrid, it looks interesting, but it has nothing to do with the European version.

Toyota Yaris Cross 2023. This version was made for Indonesia

It is this country, along with Thailand, that form two important markets for Toyota. Sales there remain at a high level, and customer expectations are very specific. In addition to price, materials play an important role. So it should come as no surprise that the Japanese are making domestically produced cars for these markets.

The Indonesian Toyota Yaris Cross looks very good. It is safe to say that its style is a perfect combination of the current Highlander and RAV4. Some people will definitely like this line more than the European dialect.

The same goes for the interior. Here we are dealing with a more “angular” and larger structure. The equipment does not differ in many respects from what we find in “our” Yaris Cross.

The version produced for Indonesia is also slightly larger. The height has increased by 13 cm, and the wheelbase itself is here again by 6 cm. Thanks to this, a larger and more spacious interior was created, as well as a more capacious trunk, which provides about 400 liters of capacity.

Under the hood there were two engines – naturally aspirated gasoline and hybrid

The offer opens with the 1.5 Dual VVT-i unit, which produces 106 hp and 138 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or optional CVT transmission.

The second option is a hybrid, which uses a 1.5 engine producing 79 hp and an electric motor. Total power is 112 hp. The current is stored in a small lithium-ion battery.

The AWD version was not released due to the low popularity of such variants in Indonesia. Toyota has high hopes for this model and hope for market success. One thing is for sure – if you go there on vacation, you will definitely see many such cars at the rental airport.
