A small E-SUV appears

The legendary Hummer is equipped with an electric motor. After the manufacturer adopted electricity, the GMC Hummer SUV now offers a unique E-SUV, thanks to which the high fuel consumption of its combustion brother, more than 20 liters per 100 kilometers, should soon be history.

GMC Hummer is ditching the E-Pick-up to be followed by the legendary off-roader E-SUV, at least in the US. The E-SUV should still be launched at the beginning of 2023. At 4.99 meters long, it is almost half a meter longer than its big brother with an open loading floor. The wheelbase also increases from 3.45 to 3.22 meters.

With 608 kW or 830 hp, the GMC Hummer E-SUV still has a lot of steam under the hood. From a standstill, three electric motors could accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km / h in less than four seconds, which is quite an announcement for such a large and heavy car.

“The GMC Hummer EV SUV offers a unique balance of on-road performance and off-road capability, enhanced by a unique design that enables our signature off-road utility.” points out Al Oppenheiser, director of development at GMC.

Particular attention is paid to the all-wheel drive system, which can direct power to individual wheels on an uneven surface. This should also ensure a powerful turning radius of less than 11 meters. Even a 60% slope should not cause major problems for the electric Hummer.

Adaptive air suspension and 22-inch wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires and a wider tread set the SUV apart. Safety cameras and low-profile cameras with an integrated windshield washer are still available as an optional off-road package.

A distance of 500 km

The GMC Hummer SUV battery is largely the same as its pickup truck counterpart. Despite the weight of around 4 tons and the raw power of the engine, the E-SUV would allow a range of around 500 km.

In addition, the E-Hummer should also be able to be used as a power source and, for example, provide its four walls with energy, at least temporarily, in the event of a power outage.

Interestingly, the roof elements need to be removed in just a few steps to quickly convert the E-SUV into a convertible. Alternatively, there is an electrically opening rear door in which a spare wheel is fitted.

“Designing a pickup and an SUV at the same time has helped us give each vehicle its own unique features to maximize utility,” said chief architect Phil Zak

In the United States, the launch of the GMC Hummer SUV is planned for early 2023. It is not yet known if the E-SUV will also arrive in Europe.
