Absolutely amazing! Alfa Romeo Milano suddenly gets a different name

We checked the calendar to be sure: is it still April 1? Because the press release about the name change Alfa Romeo Milan It is so laconic that we almost did not take it seriously.

We wrote about it yesterday. Italy’s Minister of Economic Development is not happy with the Alfa Romeo Milano name. He believes that the car named Milan should be built in Italy, not Poland.

Alfa Romeo Milano is not Italian

The Minister mentions the Italian law, which is usually used to protect Parmesan cheese, for example. Only cheese from the Parma region can be called this way, others cannot. And according to that logic, Milano should not have an Italian name.

Now you’d expect Alfa Romeo to ignore the criticism and continue to promote its new compact crossover, but no… The brand apparently had some serious meetings and suddenly decided to call the Milano Alfa Romeo Junior.

What a great waste!

Absolutely amazing! The development of Milano took years and cost hundreds of millions. Did no one see this problem coming all along? And now all promotional materials can also go into the shredder. What a waste of money, time and resources!

But Alfa Romeo doesn’t care, it seems. The manufacturer has sent out a press release that says very simply: ‘Name the Milano wrong? Junior then!’ You would almost think that Alfa Romeo is collaborating with the Italian government and that this is one big publicity stunt.

Thanks for advertising

Alfa Romeo believes that the name Milano is completely legitimate, as we read more in the press release, although the Minister of Economic Development claims no. However, Alfa Romeo has decided to replace the Milano with the Junior. This is to avoid creating unnecessary tensions.

There are good eyes in the text. Alfa Romeo would like to thank the Italian government, it says, “for the free publicity resulting from this debate”. Well, the brand’s PR department couldn’t have done this better.

“We decided to change the name, although it is not necessary, because we want to avoid controversy,” Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said. According to him, Milano – now Junior – has received so much attention in recent days that Alfa’s website has crashed.

Alfa Romeo Milano becomes Junior

Alfa Romeo Junior is a historical name that goes back to the GT 1300 Junior from 1966. The sports car had a 1290 cc petrol engine with 89 hp. Ultimately, 92,000 units of the Junior classic were sold.
