If there is a legendary warplane, it is the Zero of the Pacific War. However, this fighter was quickly reduced. Jean-Pierre Pécau and Christophe Gibelin tell his story.

Although outclassed by its rivals, the Japanese Zero occupies a special place in the Pantheon of World War II fighter planes. The first Western pilots who had to test themselves against this fighter were Claire Lee Chennault’s Flying Tigers, in 1940. But at that time China was far away and the USA did not want to enter the world conflict. Chennault’s reports on the quality of the Zero did not impress the USAF General Staff.

From December 1941, it is clear that things will change. We will have to wait for the Americans to recover the crash of Zero, in the Aleutian islands, and analyze it, to reveal its secrets.
