Bugatti is preparing a game changer. Will the V16 hybrid rev to 9,600 rpm? Calculations

Bugatti has no intention of slowing down. It will still be based on a 16-cylinder engine. This time, however, it will receive a V design, not a W. And that is not the end of the news. Because that person will also be mixed. This is perhaps a subtle nod to ecology.

The Bugatti hybrid can have a capacity of 8.3 liters and 3 electric motors

How do we know all this? The brand officially announced a new power unit. He even showed a short video promoting the engine. It shows, among others: the construction of the carbon intake. Drivers can also listen to the sound of the unit’s operation. Details? Bugatti knows how to build tension before the premiere. So, since the engine will be officially launched in June this year, the company is not revealing any technological details. This leaves room for speculation.

So let’s gather all the rumors in one place. And they look like this:

  • the new Bugatti engine is said to have been developed by Cosworth. It will still have ridiculous potential. This time it will be 8.3 liters.
  • The unit is working with three electric motors. This will give it up to 1,800 horsepower.
  • According to some rumors, the Bugatti unit will be able to “spin” up to 9,600 rpm.

Where did this 9600 rpm come from? in the new Bugatti?

The basis of the latest rumor was given by Chris Perkins in his material on the web Engine1. He analyzed the sound made by the engine in a recording of the announcement made by Bugatti.

Using an audio spectrum analyzer, he concluded that in the upper rev range the engine would emit a frequency of 1275 Hz. According to Perkins, this result should be divided by 8 (because there are many pairs of cylinders) and multiplied by 60 (because 1 rpm is 60 Hz). This way you can get exactly 9562.5 rpm. This could be the highest lap speed of Bugatti’s new hybrid unit.

This really means one thing. If the above calculations and rumors are true in June 2024, it looks like Bugatti will create another game changer. The 1,800 horsepower “spins” the gasoline engine up to about 9,600 rpm. it will provide exceptional performance. And this is in terms of acceleration and top speed. Competing companies in the hypercar segment may therefore start to panic.
