Charlotte Anna Barfield | Anniversary


Charlotte Anna Barfield of Cadillac passed away on April 6, 2024. She was 100 years old. Charlotte was born on December 6, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Anna (Hulka) Hermanek.

He graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero, Illinois and later served in the US Navy as a WAVE during WWII. He was stationed at the Navy Yard in Charleston, South Carolina as a teletype operator. On the GI Bill Charlotte went on to attend the Evanston College Institute and the Art College of Chicago. Charlotte lived briefly in Cape Coral, Florida before moving to Cadillac in 1991.

Charlotte worked at the Huron Manistee National Forest Cadillac Office in the SCEP program and in the office at First Congregational Church UCC where she was a member. He was also a charter member of the Wexford County Herb Society. Charlotte volunteered with Wonderland Pet Haven fostering multiple cats and Mercy Daycare Center for nine years, Mercy Hospital, Shepherd’s Table and First Grade Reading Programs at Lincoln and McKinley Elementary. She also worked with the Literacy Council at the Cadillac Wexford Public Library. Charlotte also enjoyed volunteering and entering crafts at the Northern District Fair each August to win her share of blue ribbons.

She raised three children: Bonita (Ramon) Mayor of Manton, John (Diane) Barfield, Jr. of Tinley Park, Illinois, Victoria (Charles) Gill of Elgin, Illinois; grandchildren: Matthew (Alison) Gill, Clint (Lauren) Mayor of Grand Ledge, Rebecca (Isaac) Mitchell of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Heather (Stephen) Horvath of Cadillac; great-grandchildren: Andrew and Malachi Horvath, Caden and Gavin Mitchell, Alexander, Christopher, Nickolas and Abigail Mayor and Lilianna Gill.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Michigan for the professional care that Charlotte received.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Friday, April 19, 2024 at The First Congregational Church UCC with Pastor John Doud officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church UCC, Wonderland Humane Society or Hospice of Michigan Cadillac Chapter.
