Brief history of the manufacturer: Chery Automobile Company

The company already exists for more than 25 years – since 1997, to be exact. The beginning of the state-owned company was unusual: using the Seat Toledo chassis as a basis, Chery released the company’s first car in 1999. About 30,000 units of the so-called Fengyun were sold – at first illegally, as the company only received his official car repair license four years later.

By working with SAIC Motors, Chery was legally on the safe side as an independent rider from 2001 onwards. Two years later, Chery fell out with SAIC. Tensions between partner companies it seems unusual for Chery. Cooperation with General Motors, VW, Fiat and Chrysler was also difficult. Chery has been a permanent partner of Nissan since 2009.

At the same time Chery among the 10 largest car manufacturers in the country. In 2022 alone, the company produced more than 1.2 million cars, a third of which was intended for export. Construction takes place in a total of 14 workshops around the world: in China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, Uruguay, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Chery: These models are coming to Germany

In 2011, the manufacturer from the Chinese city of Wuhu was the country’s biggest seller with 170,000 vehicles shipped – so it is strange that Chery only wants to sell its cars in Germany from 2024. The company’s head of strategy, Zhu Shaodong, has announced that Chery with a total of 3 sub-brands and 2 designs each he wants to start in this country.

Chery wants to be different from other manufacturers from China not just electric cars offering hybrids and combustion engines. According to the manufacturer, the decision was made for customers who do not want to buy electric cars due to high costs.

The first is Omoda meet them Omoda. The SUV will hit German roads as a pure electric vehicle, as well as a combustion engine and hybrid. The petrol variant has a 1.6 liter turbo engine that can produce around 180 hp and 275 Nm of torque. As an electric version, the Omoda 5 is powered by a 48 or 64 kWh battery, depending on the equipment, and the motor has an output of 100 or 150 kW. The Omoda 7 will also conquer the German market as a hybrid and combustion engine, at least for the time being. There is no more accurate data yet.

Chery’s second sub-brand, Jaecoo, serves as well as models Jaecoo 7 and 8 short and medium class. The basis of both models is the Omoda 5 platform, and the technical data is based on it. Unlike Omoda 5, which will look like a crossover, Jaecoo 7 will look like an SUV.

Exlantix cars will come to Germany at the end of 2024 or 2025. Only electric charging brand is launched in this country and E03 sedan and E0Y SUV. Chery is expected to offer the cars with V800 technology, 80 kWh batteries and a range of more than 600 kilometers.
