Chinese carmaker Chery is expanding its development center in Raunheim, Hesse. “We plan to double the number of employees in the next twelve months,” explains Jochen Tüting, Managing Director of Chery Europe. “Along with the launch of our brands Omoda and Jaecoo in nine major European markets and other smaller ones, we want to increase our R&D staff to 120 employees by the end of 2024.”

According to Chery, the development areas at the Raunheim site should be expanded to more than 1,200 square meters. With the planned expansion, the Chinese manufacturer is looking for engineers, designers and technicians who will also strengthen the engineering department.

In a location not far from Frankfurt Airport, Chery is working on new products and country-specific solutions. Staff responsibilities at Raunheim include design development, simulation and testing as well as hardware and technical product design. “New things are also created here that cannot find their way to Europe,” explains Tüting.

Research, development and collaboration

Chery has announced eight new models in Europe for the next two years. The first model, the Omoda 5, can already be ordered in Spain. The market launch in Germany is planned for the middle of the year. Then, along with the petrol version of the SUV, an electric version will also be available.
