Cupra Formentor has been “surprised” in the market. I wonder why?

There are many crossovers, many hatchbacks and many VAG cars on the market. Of the latter, most sell well and are well placed. T-Roc? There go, compact, small SUV. Golf – you know, classic! Octavia is for those who need a big trunk. And KITI Leon? Well, no one knows for whom. The Cupra Formentor has also been on the market for four years and has been an unexpected success. It sells very well in Europe. And in our country – unique. Especially for a brand that has been around for as long as this model.

While driving the Cupra Formentor these past few days, I was wondering about the genius of this car. And not because he is bad. It’s a great car, especially the VZ version, with a 310 horsepower engine. We wrote about it some time ago and we still love this version.

We still don’t like multimedia, which has a life of its own and is not very intelligentWe don’t like to make plastic and, in this version, high consumption of fuel in the city.

The Cupra Formentor is the first SEAT Leon, just new

While the Leon has lost its identity, the Formentor, in my opinion, is what SEAT’s hatchback was when it was introduced. Liftback, with good cargo space, but at the same time not as old as Toledo. It’s flexible, sporty and emphasizes this with a multitude of solid offerings.

Cupra followed the same path. It made more than just a quick Golf by dressing it in a crossover-style body. But at the same time, it is not a family-related or “boring” SUV. The body is raised, but a normal lift. Strong lines and sharp angles in the details make the car look attractive. And, unfortunately, high ground clearance and big wheels are a must these days.

Compared to the Golf, the Formentor also has advantages in the form of less space in the second row of seats and a larger trunk. So it’s something in the middle between the Golf and the Octavia, only more interesting.

In addition, although many people (including us) laughed at the expansion of the engine range. The Cupra was supposed to be sporty and originally offered only powerful engines. Then there were some quite ordinary ones. So what kind of “sports brand” is this? It seems this is what people expected. This “game” in aesthetics and character, but with classic and proven VAG group technology.

The Spanish (or Germans) reinterpreted KITI from the late 1990sbut they separated themselves from the models who lost the “Spanish character”.

So there is “something different”, it is more characteristic, but also more practical. Stylish but familiar. And at the same price as the company’s competition (all cars 1.5 TSI and DSG with advanced equipment cost about PLN 145,000).

Of course, funding is also important – but it varies a lot in this group. However, it certainly helped spread Formentora to the streets. Not only in top condition like the VZ Tribe Edition for more than PLN 250,000.
