The Cupra brand is meant to make an impression. He tries to make the car not only a means of transportation, but something more. Emotions mean something different to everyone, which is why the range of this manufacturer includes attractive, quiet or sporty, fast and pleasant engine versions. The Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ is in the latter category.

This is the most powerful Leon you can find. The two-liter TSI gasoline engine produces 310 HP and 400 Nm, which accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250 km / h. The sprint to 100 is especially commendable. It’s a hell of a station wagon. Interestingly, such power is only available in the Sportstourer version, i.e. in the station wagon. In the hatchback we will get a maximum of 300 horsepower without four-wheel drive.

And of course, the Cupra Leon is a Sportier Seat, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Furthermore, Leon, despite being a few years old, has no intention of getting old. The Cupra experts didn’t have to do much to make the car interesting. There is another bumper with a large air intake and gray strips, on the side there is also a dark colored line that appears on the sill, and at the back there is a good exhaust with four real tips, a little different than in the weak versions. Between them there is a small diffuser.

The entire body is painted gray with brass inserts, which are especially visible on the badges and beautiful rims. And thanks to these 19-inch wheels, the Leon looks very sharp and attractive. There is no shame.

The interior is no less racy, especially thanks to the Sabelt leather bucket seats and large “ears”. Their side support is good and they don’t make it too difficult to get in, although it would definitely be easier with regular seats. However, their sporting qualities are at a high level, as is their comfort. Driving in them did not cause back pain and even after a long journey it was fine. It is a pity that the seats do not have lumbar support adjustment. Surprisingly, it did not bother me, although I push this part almost to the maximum, but the lack of this function may bother others.

This sporty Cupra also has a slightly different steering wheel and buttons for quick entry into “Cupra” mode and engine starter. Wreath might be a bit thick for me, but the advantage is that it is warm. Apart from that, I have no opinion, all the buttons are easily and physically available.

The rest of the interior is no different from the quieter versions of the Leon. The upper part is made of soft material, and the lower part, unfortunately, is made of hard stone material, although it is pleasing to the eyes. The seats are leather and the side panels are made of artificial leather, but it looks very nice. In front of the driver, common to almost all cars from the Volkswagen group, there is a 10.25-inch screen that is responsive and legible, and the graphics match the character of the brand.

In the center of the cockpit is a second, 12-inch multimedia display with a not-so-good infotainment system. And don’t let the pretty pictures and large selection of individual features fool you. Because it must be clearly stated that its operation is not the most pleasant. Many options are hidden to access them, you have to go through at least one additional screen.

For example: you start your car on a cold day and think to yourself, “I’m going to turn on the seat heating.” So you press the small icon of the seats at the top of the screen and it turns out that this function is not yet activated, and you just enter the appropriate menu. And this is unless you hover over a hole that will cause your finger to touch another spot on the screen. Only after that you should press to turn on the heating. In general, temperature control itself is not easy, because the process is the same as in the case of seat heating. Other functions are also hidden and you need to consider using them.

And well, you can say that the user will get used to it, get the hang of it and after some time he will be able to use it quickly. Maybe, but small trimmings also happen, and you probably won’t get used to it. It is a pity that this is not the original system from VAG products, which did not look very attractive, but worked better.

It’s time to move to the second row, where there is a lot of space. Here it turns out to be a real station wagon with a lot of legs and a head, as well as a third climate zone and USB-C ports. The sofa turns out to be comfortable and there is an armrest. There is also a central tunnel, caused by a four-wheel drive.

There is also plenty of space in the trunk, as befits a station wagon. The capacity of the trunk is 620 liters, and after folding the backrests it increases to 1,600 liters in addition, it is highly adjustable and has two breaks on the sides. There are also two floors and special handles for lowering the rear parts from the side of the trunk lid. In addition, a hook and a hole for skis were thought of. The tested model was also equipped with an electric liftgate, requiring an additional fee of PLN 2,331.

But let’s get to the most important thing – the driving experience. In Comfort mode, the Leon is a very friendly car, able to cope with potholes and uneven roads with comfort. At the same time, the gearbox does not work with a delay and responds quickly enough to the commands given through the gas pedal, but without fear. It is – as the name suggests – comfortable, which makes the Cupra, with 310 HP under the hood, the perfect car for long family holiday trips.

However, all you need to do is change the game mode and this sheep will turn into a wolf. The suspension becomes more rigid and the response to the gas is almost immediate. The gearbox goes into sports mode, which tightens it up, and the exhaust starts to crackle a bit. It is a pity that it is not more visible, but it still provides a pleasant acoustic experience. The exhaust sound is also amplified from the speakers and resembles the sound of the V8 engine. Cool at first, but gets boring after a while – luckily, this artificial reinforcement can be turned off.

In every situation, the car is stable, drives very well and predictably, also in corners, and driving is pure pleasure. However, if one expects the devil to come out of this car in bad shape and have to fight it at every corner, then they must be careful.

Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ Cup – should be lit

When it comes to combustion, everyone can interpret it in their own way. In the city, a leisure trip means a fuel consumption of more than 11-12 l/100 km, but for hard driving it can also be 16-17 l/100 km. On the road, however, it is possible to get less than about 8.5 l/100 km in normal driving and overtaking, but more intensive use of the car will cause the computer to show a fuel consumption of around 12 l/100 km. On the highway at 140 km / h, consumption is about 9.5 l / 100 km, and at 120 km / h – about 8.5 l / 100 km. This is a lot for a family station wagon, but for a 310 horse car the results are not surprising.

I am glad that the driver’s safety systems do not disturb the driver while driving. They are refined and basically everything works well, sensitive and without sudden surprises for the driver. Even the lane keeping system, which I don’t like, was tolerable in the Cupra, although sometimes you couldn’t see the yellow lines that replaced the white ones during roadworks.

Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ Cup – price

Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ Cup costs a minimum of PLN 223,000. PLN 200 and already fully equipped. In the tested model, an additional fee was required for paint, an electric hatch and a Beats sound system, which increased the price to PLN 231,000. zlotys. However, you can still go crazy and add, among others: opening glass roof, Brembo brakes and driver’s knee airbag. The highest “full” version will cost more than PLN 250,000. zlotys.

Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ Cup – in my opinion

Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ Cup is a great sports car. Plus, it almost perfectly fulfills the definition of a “daddy” sports car. When you need it, it’s quiet, family-friendly and comfortable, and when you like it, it can add adrenaline. Plus it looks great. It is a pity that the same cannot be said about the multimedia system, which we deal with every day. However, if you can turn a blind eye to this poor handling, the Cupra Leon will be a great family friend and companion for the daily sport driver.
