Den Bosch has its own mini-museum: ‘You keep eating’

The real Bossche Bollen experience opened in Den Bosch on Thursday. The flavor of the story has its own exhibition under the town hall. “The world’s loudest little museum,” creator Jules Lauwerijssen calls it.

Deep inside the city hall of Den Bosch, the small exhibition opened on Thursday afternoon in the cellar of the centuries-old council in the center of the city. And the taste itself is also immortal. “Even Hieronymus Bosch would certainly not skip this concert,” Lauwerijssen muses.

Mirrors and art
Anyone who thinks that there is little to say about a simple chocolate ball is wrong. You can experience the smell of cake in seven different rooms. There is also a room with a distorting mirror, a room in the style of Hieronymus Bosch and the first Lambermont bakery from 1924.

“With a good dose of humor and also a touch of absurdity,” promises Lauwerijssen, who previously prepared real Bossche bollen ice cream and Bossche bol workshops. “Bossche bol puts a smile on everyone’s face, that’s the goal.”

It’s interesting: if you say Den Bosch, most residents of Den Bosch will say: Jan de Groot. He does not participate in the exhibition. “A lot of activity,” the popular bakery previously told Omroep Brabant by phone.

“There is definitely a place for De Groot in the exhibition,” continues Lauwerijssen, owner of the Royal bakery in Visstraat. Is his bakery ‘the real thing’? “There are several bakers, each with their own recipe.”

‘Magic’
Dutch and foreign tourists from far and wide line up for this piece of culinary heritage. You often hear the word ‘Bossche bol’ spoken by tourists with a thick French or English accent. What’s the secret? “The cream does magic. It does something in people’s minds. You keep eating.”

The mini museum is open every day of the week. Visits are by appointment only on Mondays and Tuesdays. You also get a Bossche bol with the entrance fee. “I hope everyone leaves with a big smile.”
