DS, Opel and Jeep get Mild Hybrid petrol engine (2024)

DS 3, DS 4 and Opel Astra now use less fuel. They have received a new Hybrid petrol engine from Stellantis, a 136 hp hybrid engine that consumes 15% less – and therefore also emits much less CO2 – than the corresponding 1.2 PureTech 130 with automatic transmission. All three models are equipped with an automatic transmission as standard and can be ordered from now on. In the case of the Astra you pay 1,800 more for the 1.2 Turbo with 130 hp.

Power to a small hybrid

The Stellantis Hybrid petrol engine was launched late last year with the previous generation Peugeot 3008 and 5008, and is actually an evolution of the company’s 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine, which has been used for years in the French Hatch . The gasoline engine has been made more efficient thanks to the Miller circuit, a new drive chain (instead of a poorly lubricated belt) and a new geometry turbocharger.

But the biggest difference undoubtedly comes from the new 6-speed e-DCS6 robot box, which has a 21 kW (28 hp) and 55 Nm electric motor with 48 volts, which draws its power from a 0.9 kWh battery. This hybrid gasoline engine is more powerful than what other brands offer, as it can cover very little distance on electricity. Handy for the city, where the electric part can be used at a high level thanks to the low speed.

Jeep gets its own engine

Jeep also offers a new mild hybrid gasoline engine (e-Hybrid) in the Renegade range joined by the Compass. But since these models are on a different platform, after all, they were made in the era of FCA, they use a different engine: 1.5 GSE T4, which produces 130 hp and 240 Nm. The 48-volt belt-driven starter generator provides an additional 15 kW (21 hp) to provide additional torque at low engine speeds and reduce fuel consumption. Power is stored in a 0.8 kWh battery. A less powerful system, but every little bit helps.
