Jerez, FP1: Ducati and Marquez brothers ahead / MotoGP

Alex and Marc Marquez from the Gresini Ducati team finished the first free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Circuito de Jerez on Friday morning in 1st and 2nd place.

Marc Marquez set the best time in the first 45 minutes with a time of 1:37.768 minutes and was at an incredible level after just a few minutes.

For comparison: Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) set the fastest lap in 2022 with 1:37.669 minutes, and in the same year the Italian also set the time record with 1:36.170 minutes.

Marc Marquez improved to 1:37.137 minutes and was overtaken just four minutes before the end by Gresini Ducati teammate and brother Alex Marquez with 1:36.630 minutes. Alex finished the session fastest and was more than half a second ahead of Marc in second place.

In the Grand Prix in Austin/Texas, Maverick Vinales wrote history and became the first MotoGP rider to win for a third manufacturer in the first class: after Suzuki and Yamaha, the Spaniard won Aprilia. The World Championship third-place finisher finished FP1 in third place, 0.591 seconds back, finishing directly ahead of team-mate Aleix Espargaro.

KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa, who competed in his last MotoGP season in 2018, lost his early pace and dropped to 7th place. Brad Binder was eighth and singer Pedro Acosta was tenth.

The leader of the world championship Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Ducati) behaved in an unusual way as the world champion Bagnaia, two acres of Ducati came ninth and twelfth.

During the break, Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) crashed at Turn 8 when his front wheel slipped, and eight minutes before the end, Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) suffered a similar accident.

Honda test driver and reserve driver Stefan Bradl is there with a wild card and is focusing on Andalusia in the creation of the uncompetitive RC213V. Despite these conditions, the Bavarian drove faster than brand-mate Luca Marini and ended up in second to last place. Zarco brought the best Honda to a shy 19th position.
