Even without the V8, the new Dodge Charger isn’t just electric

Since 2021 and the merger of the PSA and Fiat-Chrysler groups, the new Stellantis group has focused more on its European brands than on the American ones. Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Fiat and Alfa Romeo have added new products. Lancia is coming soon. And aside from Jeep, it doesn’t have glory on the other side of the Atlantic, where Chrysler and Dodge are facing various forms of aging. The Hornet, a companion to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, is Dodge’s only new product since 2010! But all this will change soon. The American manufacturer is returning to the automotive scene… with a new Charger!

Dodge Charger– Dodge

Dodge Charger electric

This eighth generation, which Dodge has just revealed, is faithful to the original 1966 model: muscular silhouette, protruding sides, Fastback details. Big news: electricity! It introduces the new STLA Grand platform, which will eventually also power Chrysler, Jeep, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo models. So two 100% electric versions are offered: R / T, 496 hp for 510 km of autonomy, and Daytona, whose power increases to 630 hp but autonomy decreases to 418 km due to the adoption of a wheel drive. Respect, for a creature weighing more than 2.5 tons!

Sedan and oil too

This new Dodge Charger must signal a renewal for Dodge, which also does not want to risk disappointing its most loyal customers, who are feverish about electric cars. Also, to everyone’s delight, this new Charger will be available not only as a four-door sedan, but also with a petrol engine! Gone is the good old Hemi V8, replaced by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder with 420 or 550 hp depending on the version. Good news for Americans, they like hot engines, but maybe also for us Europeans, especially since with an electric version, it can be sold here in the coming years. With Stellantis’ distribution network already spread far and wide across the Old Continent, all bets are off…
