Hyundai is discontinuing petrol engines with the N label, this is what’s left

Hyundai will stop supplying the latest N models with the petrol engine in Europe. Only N models with a plug will be delivered in our continent after the first half of this year.

This means very little for the Netherlands. N models with a combustion engine cannot be ordered here either. However, in Belgium the Hyundai i20 and i30 N are still on the price list.

Hyundai N without petrol engines

The Korean manufacturer informs Motor1 Germany that it will discontinue the N models with the petrol engine in Europe. The label will not be deleted but will continue to exist on electric vehicles.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N

Hyundai’s first N without a petrol engine will be the Ioniq 5 N. The electric car has two electric motors that together produce 650 hp of peak power and 609 hp continuously. Torque is 740 Nm. The hatchback sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 260 km/h.

If you can control your right leg, a distance of 448 km is possible. The EV has a battery pack with a net capacity of 80 kWh. Partly due to the large battery pack, the Hyundai weighs 2310 kg. As a result, it won’t be a light-footed hot spot like the i30 N, for example.

Still, it should provide plenty of driving pleasure. Partly due to the slip modes, simulated shift points, smaller electronic slip differential and more torsional stiffness than the standard Ioniq 5. It is not yet clear whether the electric car is as exciting as the Koreans promise. If you want to stay informed about future EV testing, subscribe Autovisie magazine.

i30 N

Although Hyundai’s N label must continue without petrol engines, the i30 is still sold as a used car. In the video below, Autovisie editor Peter Hilhorst compares the model to the Ford Focus ST. Which one is better?
