Ferrari, Sainz: “Red Bull better until we bring updates”

Ferrari is waiting for the first steps of this season’s reforms to further shorten the gap to Red Bull. These are the thoughts of Carlos Sainz, with the Spaniard admitting that in this first part of the season the Milton Keynes team will continue to have an advantage over the competition. It was precisely in the Suzuka round that the Anglo-Austrian team made the first progress, unlike Maranello who plans a new package as much as possible, which should start in about a month at the Imola round.

So far 2024 has only given Carlos Sainz a podium finish. The Spaniard, who is in his last season in red before handing over the Ferrari seat to Lewis Hamilton, except for the Jeddah race (he had to pull out due to an operation to remove appendicitis) had two third places in Bahrain and Suzuka. and victory in Melbourne.

“I think Red Bull will definitely have an advantage in the first third of the season until we bring one or two updates that will allow us to fight with them regularly – said Sainz, discussing with journalists at the press conference after the race in Suzuka. – But that action will probably be a little late for the advantage they can get in the championship.

Then the Spaniard added: “Right now we need more races like the one in Australia! Red Bull as a team never makes mistakes. A shame because I also missed a race that, for me and for the team, could cost me a lot from a championship point of view. Despite one less race, we will give our best. It’s also my last year at Ferrari, I have nothing to lose.”
