Front-wheel drive off-road: Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid

The Jeep Avenger became the car of 2023, but it wasn’t a real Jeep. We found out during the introduction that the front-wheel drive can also drive off-road because of its different driving modes, good ground clearance and short overhang, but the model was never released with a four-wheel drive.

That will change. The Jeep Avenger will be available this year as a 4xe version. The drivetrain consists of a 1.2-liter three-cylinder with two 29 hp electric motors on the rear axle.

However, the Jeep Avenger 4xe is yet to be driven and a fully electric variant is yet to be planned for 4×4. However, Alfa Romeo CEO informed Autovisie that the Milano EV, on the same eCMP platform from Stellantis, will have all-wheel drive. The logical consequence is that the Avenger EV will also be sold as a 4×4.

Not that far yet. However, a new powertrain can be ordered, the e-Hybrid. It produces 100 hp and is equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission with six gears. The power source is assisted by a 48 volt starter/generator. This allows the Jeep Avenger to drive one kilometer on electricity at up to 30 kilometers per hour.

What such a small diversification is useful for is reducing consumption. According to the WLTP measurement method, the compact hybrid consumes 0.8 liters per 100 km less than the standard Jeep Avenger. The cheapest Jeep Avenger has a starting price of 30,700 euros, this compact hybrid costs 32,700 euros.
