First: Pirelli brings new wet tires to DTM / DTM

The DTM will also run on Pirelli tires this year. With the Cinturato WHB, the new wet tire from the Italian brand will debut in the DTM and ADAC GT Masters this year.

DTM starts its second season with Pirelli. The Milan-based Italian tire manufacturer will exclusively supply DTM cars up to 600 hp from Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche until 2025. Last season, Formula 1 supplier tires were used for the first time in history of 40 years of DTM – this year the partnership enters the next phase. Drivers and teams benefit from the expertise of a paid partner, who will also present innovations this season: Pirelli chose the DTM and ADAC GT Masters for the premiere of the newly developed Cinturato WHB wet tire.

Pirelli tires were already the deciding factor for the exciting and varied DTM races last year. Features of this are not only the performance pit stops, which provide a lot of fun in the middle of the race, but also the details of the tires. In the 2024 DTM season, the top ten in qualifying will start on the tires they also used in qualifying. The following competitors start the race with new tires. This rule affects the racing strategies of the participants and, after good experience in the last season, when the rule was applied to the top six, it has now been extended to the ten fastest in qualifying.

“Our partnership is of great value, not only because of the high quality of the tires. “Along with Pirelli, our partners include a company with experience from international racing series including Formula 1,” says ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss.

Matteo Braga, Circuit Operations Manager at Pirelli, comments: «We are looking forward to building on our experience in this top-class championship and working with the organizer, team and drivers of the highest quality. The decision to choose the DTM as the starting point for the launch of a new generation of wet tires is not accidental. It was developed based on our experience on the race tracks in this series last year and is now being gradually extended to all GT series. The new wet tire is part of our plan to continue to develop our product range to complement the development of high-performance GT cars and meet the expectations of our customers.
