Honda HR-V e: HEV – TEST. This car is all about maximizing minimalism

A few months ago my friends asked me for help in choosing a car. Their criteria were simple – enough, good, well-equipped, possibly elevated and necessarily hybrid. Until now, they were driving the famous Japanese crossover, already a little old and tired from the operation. The Honda HR-V then appeared on my list of recommendations, although I usually threw it there.

A few weeks ago, this car was seen at the house of these friends. And guess what? They are pleased. At that time, however, I was already after the test of the HR-V and understood where the satisfaction with this well-appointed car came from.

Honda HR-V e: HEV – TEST. I honestly admit that I thought the market failure of this car

It was all about the price, which is high. The car you see in the picture is the Advance Style variant, which is the richest version in the range of this model. It costs PLN 159,500, which makes it one of the most expensive offers in its segment.

But here comes the important issue, which is the space of this car. At first glance, it may seem like a normal B-section method.

In practice, however, the HR-V is a slightly larger car than other cars in its class Renault Capturalike Peugeot 2008. The difference is not astronomical, but noticeable nonetheless.

In practice, you can give it a “B +” label, because with one foot the HR-V enters the compact area. It’s all about the space in the closet, which is absolutely amazing!

Even tall people are spoiled for choice in the back seat. Being 184 cm tall, I have plenty of legroom and headroom. No other car in this segment offers such comfort.

In addition, Honda is true to its smart patents

We are talking here about The Magic Chair Systemwhich allows you to use the back seat space as an additional luggage compartment. This is a good patent for transporting long objects. The luggage compartment alone has a capacity of 335 liters. This is not the best result, but in daily use and for long trips for two people, it is enough.

In addition, there is additional storage space under the floor for small items. It is large and deep, so it will definitely come in handy when packing the car.

Honda HR-V e: HEV has a very nice cockpit. It was also quite a surprise

First of all, I am happy here with the bright colors of the cabin, which certainly makes the time spent behind the wheel more pleasant. It’s true that there are a lot of colors here (even too many), but the whole creates a solid set.

Honda opted for a smaller cockpit design. Apart from the advanced climate panel and multimedia system screen, we won’t find too many switches here. And that’s good, because the ergonomics of the operation benefit from it.

What matters most is close at hand. We control everything intuitively and without taking your eyes off the road. Multimedia is very fastand after connecting the phone, we can use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Watches that are semi-digital look attractive. The left part of the instrument cluster is a screen that can transmit various data – from information about the car, to data from the computer, to indications from the multimedia system. We all control the roller on the steering wheel – it’s very simple.

The driving position is comfortable and comfortable, and the seat itself does not disappoint. Of course, the seat is very small, but it didn’t bother me while driving. We have many lockers and lockers nearby, which allow you to keep your phone and wallet easily.

How does the Honda HR-V e: HEV drive?

Let’s not hide it – Toyota have set the bar very high in the world of hybrid cars. The Japanese have improved their solutions to such an extent that economy and performance leave nothing to be desired.

When creating its hybrid, Honda took a slightly different approach and developed its own unique design. Once again, however, I refuse to explain precisely the principles of its operation, because it is a twisted system.

In short – depending on the speed, the engine acts as a generator of the electric unit or drives the car. In the case of high speed, the combustion engine takes the first fiddle, and the gearbox at the same time includes a special gear that is taken at high speed.

Honda HR-V e: HEV TEST

Let’s leave the technicalities aside and answer one simple question – does it work? The answer is yes, but.

But it seems for a simple reason – The Honda HR-V isn’t as fuel efficient as rival Toyota hybrids. When driving around the city, I was able to reduce fuel consumption to 4.4 liters, but it requires some sacrifices. The actual on-board computer showed values of 4.8-5.2 liters, which is still a good result.

In comparison, however Yaris crossover easily goes down to 4 liters in the city, without fighting for every drop of fuel.

At highway speeds, the Honda HR-V can be a little greedy. At 120 km / h, we use from 6.5 to 6.9 liters per hundred, and at 140 km / h even 7.8-8.3 l / 100 km.

at 100 km/h: 5.1l / 100 km
at 120 km/h: 6.8 l / 100 km
at 140 km/h: 8.2 l / 100 km
in the city: 4.5-5.6 l / 100 km

Even though we have a CVT here, you can’t complain about its performance

I don’t understand the constant complaining about how the CVT works. It’s like complaining that red is red. The CVT works in a special way, because that is the idea behind this design. It has its disadvantages, but also many advantages – especially in hybrid cars.

Of course, if you press the gas pedal hard, you will hear a whine, but the car goes beautifully. It accelerates effectively up to about 120 km / h and only here it loses its power.

131 hp copes well with this car. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 10.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is about 170 km / h.

The driving characteristics are a pleasant surprise

First of all, in Honda HR-V one thing surprised me – the function of the operating system. You need to put effort into turning the steering wheel, which is a surprising change from similar cars, where the steering wheel turns without any resistance.

When driving, Honda offers a good compromise between suspension stiffness and comfort. He’s also good at cornering – he’s steady and confident.

At higher speeds, it is only possible to increase the apparent strong wind, which gave me a hard time driving on the highway. It just happened to be a very windy day, which really accentuated this aspect.

Honda HR-V e: HEV looks very good to live. Don’t just choose black!

From the moment of its debut, the design of this car really suited me. Subdued, classic, but pleasing to the eye at the same time. However, this is one of those cars where the dark paint color does not match the visual features of the model. Light gray, beige and other similar colors look best.

In addition, in this sample we have a whole range of colors in the body. Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color Color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color color. Oh, I forgot – mirrors are silver. It is very little in one place.

Honda HR-V e: HEV – my opinion

The cheapest version in the range of this car, Elegance, initially costs PLN 134,000. A lot, right?

However, this is not a problem, as customers choose variants with better equipment. More than that The HR-V’s sales are very good. Considering that Honda has long fallen from the first line of statistics, the abundance of these cars on the streets of the largest cities in Poland may surprise some.

However, I already understand the phenomenon of this car. It’s a refined design, with an attractive style, but not too complicated. It has a spacious interior and a hybrid car, which is appreciated by many people.

For some, the Honda logo is also important – for which they are willing to pay more. After all, it usually meant reliability, durability and great solutions. There is no difference here.
