Hyundai presents the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup electric racing car

Hyundai has introduced the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup, an electric car that was designed for a new racing series called the eN1 class. The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup uses the operating system of the standard Ioniq 5 N, with race track modifications.

The Ioniq 5 N is the recently available sports version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover. Changes to the car based on it and now presented for racing use include lighter tires, a redesigned body uniform and lighter construction measures.

Safety has also been increased, for example with a roll cage, racing bucket seats and seat belts. In addition, an electric fire extinguishing system was installed and the position of the charging port was changed to better protect against collisions and accidents.

Storage and electronic architecture comes from the production model. The Ioniq Cup 5 N eN1 also produces 478 kW (650 hp) at its peak, of which the electric motor on the front axle contributes 166 kW (226 hp) and the electric motor on the rear axle contributes 282 kW (282 hp). Thanks to improved battery chemistry, like the Ioniq 5 N and now other variants in the series, the battery has a storage capacity of 84 kWh.

“We are very proud to introduce the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable racing,” said Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport. “This unique electric race car showcases our cutting-edge technology and our passion for pushing the boundaries of what electric cars can achieve in racing.”

The racing version also adopts the Ioniq 5 N sound generator for its driving noises. “Spectators can enjoy the exciting sounds created by NGB Overboost, Virtual Shift (N e-Shift) and differentiated and amplified NAS+ (N Active Sound), while each racing team can create their own unique sounds,” it said.
