Jack Doohan: “Spent time in the simulator” / Formula 1

Alpine junior Jack Doohan is relishing the chance to put the pedal to the metal in the first practice as part of the GP weekend in Mexico City. The 19-year-old Australian knows what he has to do.

It will be Jack Doohan’s first outing as part of the GP weekend: In Mexico, the son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan is allowed to take part in the first free practice session. He goes out in Esteban Ocon’s Alpine car. “First of all, I am very grateful to the team for giving me the opportunity to drive 1 car in the first free practice,” he says.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to driving Esteban’s car this season. For me it is another step towards my ultimate goal of reaching Formula 1 and I will do my best to benefit from this experience.”

Doohan already knows the car: “I drove it in the GP race at Monza in September as part of a shooting day. That was a good experience for me to get a first impression of how the new Formula 1 cars should be driven. In addition, I increased my preparation by spending some time in the Enstone simulator. That allowed me to run the track and get a good understanding of some of the characteristics of the track, which was really helpful.”

“I joined the team in Austin last week and spent as much time as possible with the mechanics and engineers learning the basics of the race weekend. I definitely feel ready for this opportunity,” explains the 19-year-old.

And Doohan reveals: “The main focus will be working with the team and getting through the session schedule. I will stick to the guidelines and do my part to set up the car for the race weekend in a good time window.”
