Kia finished 2022 with a record 4.8% market share in Europe

Kia achieved a new record market share in Europe in 2022, accounting for 4.8% of total passenger car sales throughout the year, according to data provided by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). This value represents an increase in relation to the brand’s previous record share (4.3%), achieved in 2021.

Kia’s total annual sales in the EU, EFTA and UK markets also saw year-on-year growth, with the brand selling 502,677 units, up 7.9% from the 416,715 sold in 2021. Europe, which went down. by 4.1% in 2022. Kia’s figure was due to increased demand for its electric models, which accounted for almost a third – 30.9% (176,149 units) – of its sales in Europe last year.

In 2022, Kia also recorded good performances in several national markets. For example, in the UK, it reached a record market share of 6.2% and exceeded, for the first time, 100,000 units sold. More market share records were also taken in Poland (8%) and Spain (7.8%), while Dutch Kia is not only the most popular imported car brand, but also the best-selling brand in the world, with a market share of 9.7. %. Additionally, Kia is now one of the top three selling brands in Spain, Poland, Sweden, Croatia, Finland, Iceland and Slovakia.

The Ceed range has been confirmed as the brand’s best-selling model across Europe in 2022, with a total of 137,347 units registered. The Sportage also continued its upward trajectory, with 136,293 vehicles sold. The Niro rounded out the brand’s top 3 last year, with 80,461 units sold.

Regarding this, the President of Kia Europe, Jason Jeong, said: “2022 was another year of great success for Kia. We gained our largest share of the market and our growing range of electronic designs received more awards and recognition. In February, the EV6 was named Car of the Year (a first for a Korean brand), and in November, the Niro was shortlisted for COTY 2023.

Last year, the company improved its production and distribution operations in Europe, seeking to make them more resilient to disruptive global events and able to meet its environmental commitments. These changes, reinforced by firm supply agreements for key components, will allow the brand to be ready for further increases in demand and shorten delivery times.


In Portugal: 20.1% increase in sales

In Portugal, where Kia is represented by Astara, sales in 2023 increased by 20.1%, one of the biggest increases among the overall brands, the result of the strength of which Stonic, Xceed and River.

Kia sold a total of 6419 vehicles, which equates to a record share of 4.1%, the first time the brand has exceeded 4% in a year since its presence in Portugal.

Determining this sales success was the success of the electric range, which accounted for 32% of the total units sold in Portugal, a figure that is already very important, according to the one seen at the European level.
