Lexus LBX: Attractive, reliable all-wheel drive – Bavaria

(aum/mue) – The Japanese are trying something small – with the LBX, the smallest model in the Lexus lineup. And it should be very big.

Contrary to what it may seem at first glance, the short 4.19 crossover is closely related to the Toyota Yaris Cross. Both are based on the so-called GA-B platform, but the wheelbase and width have increased, while the height has been reduced, which gives the LBX significantly crisper proportions and shorter overhangs compared to its sister model. There is also a new, less messy design.

In terms of drive technology, a hybrid system is used in which a 1.5-liter cylinder combined with an electric motor produces a system output of 136 hp (100 kW). With a torque of 185 Nm, the car accelerates quickly – also thanks to the always available electric boost – and reaches the speed of the country road in just 9.2 seconds. The crossover turns into an all-wheel drive with a second electric motor on the rear axle like the “E-Four”, although this does not make it more powerful or faster. On the contrary: a normal sprint up to 100 km / h takes a tenth more.

Overall, the driving behavior can be described as strong and confident. The steering and chassis are precise, direct and provide good feedback on the pavement.
