With a range of 700 km, this electric car, a cousin of the Peugeot e-3008, has great advantages to show.

A few months after the Peugeot e-3008, it’s the turn of its cousin, the Opel Grandland to adapt and offer a new 100% electric generation. The car uses the tricolor SUV platform, with its large battery providing a range of 700 km.

From 2035, all new cars sold in Europe must have a 100% electric engine, as Brussels wants. And Opel therefore will not be an exception, when the manufacturer has already started its transformation.

Unique design

The company already has a range of electric vehicles, including the Corsa-e, its Astra but also its Mokka to name a few. But that’s not all, because the manufacturer wants to continue to improve its version, as it plans to no longer sell any petrol engine on the Old Continent from around 2030. It is in this context that it has been officially launched New Grandlandwhich also becomes electric.

It also takes the opportunity to develop its design and improve itself, with a completely new front, among other things. The latter takes the famous Vizor, which is actually a wide black band that also includes a lamp, joined together by a narrow strip of light. The grille is now full, although we still notice that the shield remains open in its lower part, to allow air to pass through and cool the engine as little as possible. In profile, this new generation adopts a classic silhouette, and refuses to be a real coupe. Unlike the Peugeot e-3008, which made this aesthetic choice.

Dimensions unsurprisingly remain close between the two cars, as the new Opel Grandland is about 17 centimeters longer than the old version. So, height is 4.65 meters with a width of 1.90 meters and a height of 1.66 meters. We see that the car is firmly planted on its rims up to 20 inches, while the Cd (drag coefficient) has not yet been mentioned by the German manufacturer.

Back finallythe design is also modern compared to the previous version, and we get a lighter signature next to the one on the front. We also note that the new color of the body appears in the column, even if communique of the brand has not specified its name yet. We should know more in the coming weeks.

The most technologically advanced driving position

On the inside, the new Opel Grandland has chosen not to use the large curved grille of its cousin from Sochaux. However, it still opts for a large touch screen, which shows an impressive 16-inch diagonal. The manufacturer has not yet specified whether it is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but this will likely be the case, as with other models in the range. he is too associated with a digital phone placed in front of the manufacturer, which shows all the information necessary for driving the car.

Head-up display in augmented reality projections on the windshield are also included in the electric SUV equipment. The latter has a “clean” mode that reduces the amount of information displayed to make it easier for the driver to read. And good news, there are still a lot of physical buttons in this driving position, since we know that touching them all is not a very good idea.

Comfort is also a must on board the new generation Opel Grandland, for everyone. And especially for the driver and his front passenger, who benefit from the seats certified by the German organization AGR, which works to promote spinal health. These are equipped for the first time with motorized cushions with slots to reduce pressure on the coccyx. They are finally dressed in 100% recycled fabric upholstery, as the driver notes.

And its wheelbase was shown at 2.78 metersThe SUV also easily accommodates the rear seat occupants.

Seating should be comfortable, while the driving position has plenty of storage space, and a total of only 35 liters in the passenger compartment. It also has an induction charger for smartphones and a 12-volt socket on the front. Finally, the trunk volume can go up to 1,641 liters when the back seat is folded, in 40/20/40.

Up to 700 kilometers of freedom

Like the Peugeot e-3008, which we were able to test recently, the new Opel Grandland is based STLA central platform and therefore logically has a 100% electric motor. But for now, the manufacturer does not appear much on the subject and provides very little information, especially avoiding the power of its electric SUV. However, there is no doubt that his technical sheet will be similar to that of the Frenchman, which is between 210 to 320 horses depending on the version. Other 48-volt hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions will also be planned.

Therefore, a two- or four-wheel drive configuration should be part of the list, while two battery sizes should be offered. The first one will be shown more capacity of 73 kWh, offering a range of 525 km according to the WLTP cycle. The second should reach 98 kWh, allowing the electric SUV to travel up to 700 kilometers on a single charge. But be careful, because this version may not see the light right away, as with the e-3008.

Only 26 minutes will be needed fill the battery up to 80%, but the power is not yet confirmed. However, it should be displayed at 160 kW, as in the lion electric SUV. Also note that the Grandland benefits from reworked ground connections to show a different character, but the manufacturer isn’t saying much more at the moment. The latter notes that the car is equipped with semi-automatic driving and semi-automatic lane changing, as well as a reversing camera and 360-degree vision.

First deliveries should begin in the fall, but prices have not yet been announced. The new Opel Grandland will compete mainly with the Tesla Model Y as well as the new Renault Scénic, which we tested recently.
