Polestar’s first smartphone was launched in China

Automaker Polestar announced its first phone this week, the Polestar Phone. The device will initially be sold only in China.

When you think of a car manufacturer you don’t immediately think of a smartphone, but Polestar is now introducing its own smartphone. Ownership is not entirely accurate, because the device was developed in collaboration with the smartphone manufacturer Meizu. Like Polestar, the brand is part of the Chinese Geely. However, the collaboration between the brands does not involve more than new colors and software modifications. In fact, the revealed device is a slightly modified version of the Meizu 21 Pro.

Flag measurements

Just like the Meizu 21 Pro, the Polestar Phone offers a 6.79-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,850 nits. Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, along with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The battery capacity is 5,050 mAh, with support for 80 watts of wired and 50 watts of wireless charging. The housing is IP68 dust and water resistant and can accommodate stereo speakers.

The camera setup is also the same: the main camera has a resolution of 50 MP, supplemented by a 13 MP wide camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, there is a 32MP sensor on the borderless screen.

Connection with Polestar 4

Meizu has used Polestar Phone software. So the operating system is more compatible with the design of Polestar EVs. The device can also be easily integrated into the recently launched Polestar 4.

European availability is uncertain

It is not yet clear if the integration also works with European EV models. The smartphone will initially appear only in China, where it costs the equivalent of 955 euros.

However, it is highly likely that the device will also be launched in other parts of the world later: it was teased a lot during the Polestar Day investor event. Additionally, this device was recently spotted in the Google Play Store database, where Android devices that are or will be released on the Play Store are listed.
