McLaren, the truth behind the sudden separation from Sanchez

Andrea Stella explained the reasons that led to the separation of the agreement between David Sanchez and McLaren after only three months.

Reasons for Sanchez to leave McLaren

“We all agree that fashion itself is very beautiful,” the team principal told motorsport.com “We are very pleased to have three dimensions: aerodynamics, engineering and performance, this works very well.”

“When you have to find a technical setup, you also have to make sure it plays to the individual’s abilities. We spoke to David about this topic and we understood and recognized that his level of seniority, experience and expertise far exceeded the role he held at McLaren.”

Speaking instead of the decision to split after just three months, Stella added: “Tmonths in the normal industry are not many, but in Formula 1 they are many. Wait another three months it may put you out of action on next year’s car or the work you already have to do for the 2026 car.”

“This also applies to David: to give him a chance to have more important responsibilities elsewhere, three months could make a difference. So, we thought so it was the right time and we came to a friendly and amicable conclusion that it was the right thing to do. I wish him all the best for his future.”

McLaren is satisfied with its technical staff

Despite losing a valuable coach like Sanchez, However, McLaren feels relaxed in the technical ranks, being able to rely on other top level figures, such as Rob Marshall and Peter Prodromou:

“The news about David is a thing of the past. The main news that is important for McLaren is that we have updated and advanced technical setup, which I believe puts McLaren in a better position than ever.”
