New Acura ADX Baby SUV Debuts Early 2025, Electric MDX Confirmed

The gas crossover will sit under the RDX and is expected to help boost Acura’s sales

Acura has officially confirmed the name of its next baby crossover, which will be launched in early 2025. The new Acura ADX will have a turbocharged gasoline engine, expanding the automaker’s crossover lineup to include a model positioned below the compact, mid-range RDX. size MDX, and fully electric ZDX.

The new hybrid was previously announced in January 2024, although Acura did not reveal its name at the time. The company says the ADX will serve as ‘another gateway to the Acura brand for young premium buyers,’ along with the Integra. Although no other details have been released, the crossover may share its underpinnings with other compact models from the Honda group, such as the mechanically related models of the Honda Civic and HR-V.

“The 2025 Acura ADX will bring a fourth SUV to our lineup, serving as a new entry point on the incredible success of the Integra, positioning Acura as the ultimate brand for a new generation of buyers,” said Emile Korkor, Assistant Vice President. Acura’s President of National Sales. “With the debut of the first-ever ADX and all-electric ZDX, Acura’s lineup will offer SUV options from A to Z.”

The confirmation comes after reports from a dealer meeting last week, during which Acura informed dealers about the upcoming model. Brian Benstock, General Manager of Paragon Honda/Acura in New York City and Chairman of Acura’s National Dealer Advisory Board, expressed his enthusiasm for Automotive News, saying, “It’s about time. It’s a big segment, and we think it’s a growing segment. It will improve our ability to deliver large volumes to brands.

While the company confirmed the ADX name and market position, they remained silent on the possibility of an electric power option. However, Benstock believes that a zero-emission derivative could happen in the future, saying, “They’re keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to that, but everything will eventually turn to EVs. And we’re looking forward to that.”

Acura’s All-Electric MDX Is Coming Too

During the dealer conference, Acura also announced that it is working on a fully electric version of the three-row MDX crossover. Speaking about the upcoming model, Benstock said: “They don’t want to hurt the sales of the current car. But in the future we will see a battery-electric MDX”.

The current, fourth-generation V6-powered MDX has received a mid-life cycle update for the 2025 model year. The luxury mid-size crossover features exterior enhancements, as well as the introduction of a new touchscreen infotainment system of 12.3 inches featuring built-in Google. Additionally, it now has a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and enhanced ADAS capabilities.

Acura is set to play a key role in achieving Honda’s goal of selling 800,000 electric vehicles in North America by 2030, described as the “tip of the spear”. Its first EV – the Acura ZDX – arrives in US dealerships this summer, with a starting price of $64,500.
