Porsche 911 (992.2): Facelifts for Turbo, Carrera and Cabrio

Porsche 911 (992.2): Facelifts for Turbo, Carrera and Cabrio

In Sweden, Porsche is now doing facelift testing on the 911 992 series. A few weeks ago, our Erlkonig photographer was able to capture the turbo, and now he is photographing the Carrera and the convertible.

Since 2018, the current Porsche 911 (called internally the 992) has been on sale. After two years, the turbines began operating.

Porsche Turbo: Greater strength and hybrid

The six-cylinder 3.8-liter twin-turbo boxer engine currently produces 580 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters of torque. As is typical with Porsche, we anticipate a performance rise in the direction of 600 horsepower, as well as an increase in price to 194,650 euros.

In addition, Porsche will eventually offer hybrid propulsion in the turbo, resulting in the 911 Turbo S E-Hybrid. This model is being evaluated at the Nurburgring with a system voltage of 400 volts and a power output of roughly 700 horsepower.

Up front, the Athlete features a newly designed front apron with new vertical active air flaps. The two sensors for the driver assistance system are centrally positioned below the license plate region. They should be more concealed in production builds.

Currently, the present model has only one sensor. The little circular daytime running lights are not normal and are simply attached to conceal the design of the apron. The back of the vehicle features the renowned LED light strip, which was interrupted in the facelifted model to separate the taillights from the central portion of the light strip.

Similarly to the front apron, the rear apron has also been redesigned. On the inside, we anticipate a new, larger infotainment screen and a minor redesign with the most up-to-date comfort and aid technologies.

Will the facelifted Porsche 911 Carrera feature a naturally aspirated engine?

In 2023, the Carrera will be the first model in the 992.2 series to receive a facelift. Porsche will outfit the 911 Carrera with new front and rear skirts, but there will be no significant alterations to the exterior sheet metal. Compared to the Turbo, the LED light bar at the back of the test vehicle is uninterrupted, but the side ventilation holes and exhaust tailpipes in the center of the skirt have been redesigned.

This gave rise to rumors that the 911 could debut with the 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine seen in the 718 Cayman GT4. In the lower range, the free-breathing engine produces 400 horsepower, while the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo in the Carrera produces 385 horsepower.

The mention of the large engine was made by chief engineer Frank-Steffen Walliser, who stated in several media outlets in 2020 that due to harsher pollution rules in Europe, large engines could return. According to internal sources, the aspirated 4-liter engine will no longer be exclusive to the 911 GT model; lovers of the free-breathing engine will be pleased.

However, innovation is not limited to conventional aggregates. By the conclusion of the construction term in 2026, the lineup will be supplemented by a Porsche 911 Hybrid with around 700 horsepower.

Porsche 911 Cabrio: New and more aggressive appearance

In addition to receiving a facelift, the open version of the 992 was subjected to thorough testing in the Arctic. The convertible had a redesigned front bumper with vertical slats. The daytime running lights and turn signals have been updated. At the rear, Porsche redesigned the apron, hood, and diffuser for the convertible and the other models. Similar to the coupe, the convertible should include a four-liter boxer engine with free suction.

2020 marked the debut of the 992 model Porsche 911 Turbo. Now, the business in Zuffenhausen is already creating the updated model. As a 2024 model, the Turbo will feature updated aesthetics and technology. A Turbo Hybrid model with increased power will be released at a later date. In place of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine, the Carrera and convertible can now be equipped with a 4-liter suction engine. With facelifts, price and performance increase.
