Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (2024): Test, Price, Configuration

This is the fastest Taycan of all. The new Turbo GT 2024 is the most powerful series-produced Porsche in the brand’s history! The super sporty electric sedan delivers over 1,000 hp on the road. Just enough to leapfrog with Tesla and its Model S Plaid. But like a real Porsche, this Taycan didn’t just have to be whisper quiet: cornering precision also had to be good. Proof: The Taycan Turbo GT has set lap records for electric sedans on the Nordschleife and on the American circuit of Laguna Seca. We were able to detect it at the Monteblanco circuit, near Seville, where in theory the sun should be ready to shine…

Two-seater sedan with Weissach package

While the facelifted Taycan still exists as a Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo, the Turbo GT is only available as a sedan (Sport Limousine, as they say at Porsche…).

This GT is based on the Turbo S, but it’s 75kg lighter (but still weighs 2,290kg) thanks to custom 21-inch rims, carbon ceramic brakes and other carbon fiber elements (bucket seats, B, glass caps, etc.).

As a free option, the Weissach package saves another 70 kg, mainly by eliminating some of the sound deadening, as well as … the back seat! So you have the two-seater Taycan, decked out for the occasion with a massive carbon rear spoiler, which alone produces up to 220kg of downforce. In all cases, this more powerful Taycan (which also remains suitable for public roads) has its two boxes: front and rear.

The game environment on the board

In the interior, the dashboard of this Turbo GT is similar to that of other Taycans, but with various parts covered in micro-fiber (Rbio-Tech), such as on the steering wheel. There are also carbon fiber bucket seats with a fixed backrest that hug you very closely. Standard and convertible Sport Plus seats are available as a no-cost option.

A sea of screens also remain on the Turbo GT, one behind the steering wheel and two in the center console. Optionally, you can have an additional display installed for passengers, on which they can, among other things, set navigation, but now they can also watch movies via streaming by subscribing to Screen.

Peak power of 1,108 hp

On a technical level, this Taycan always has a Performance Plus battery (gross 105 kWh, net 97 kWh). How many kilometers can you reach in Turbo GT 2024? In theory up to 555 km according to the WLTP cycle. But that depends a lot on your right foot… The Turbo GT takes two engines from the Turbo S, but the rear unit has been improved. The result is a combined rated power of 789 hp. With launch control, this increases to 1,034 hp for 10 seconds, or even a peak of 1,108 hp for two seconds.

This allows you to run from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.3 seconds (or even 2.2 seconds with the Weissach package, which also increases the top speed from 290 km / h to 305 km / h). Later, the power drops to 789 hp, but by pressing the paddle to the right of the steering wheel you activate the Attack mode, which temporarily increases the beast to 952 hp. In short, there is always enough power under your right foot.

Acceleration of Formula E

It can’t be seen in the pictures, but during our visit in Seville it was raining. So, a wet round of Monteblanco awaited us. First test: an electric start, with 1,108 hp under our right foot… Sport Plus mode and launch control enabled, the Turbo GT blasts through the starting blocks with a slight slip of the rear wheels. At the same time, the stomach turns and our brain would end up directly in the trunk if not the head … Turbo GT is a real catapult! Accelerates as fast as a Formula E race car. But you don’t have to be a pilot to get off to a good start: the electronics take care of everything. Almost too easy!

Whistling in the rain

Time for serious work: in the water wake of our experienced instructor, we started four quick laps on the circuit. Once again electronics prove to be a blessing. When exiting a bend, the steering wheel wants to escape your fingers if you accelerate before the wheels straighten out, even with ESP on. But if you wait for the right moment before opening the tap, the efficiency is amazing and the engine whistles happily (you can also turn on the artificial sound, which produces an unpleasant hum).

The steering wheel brings us into direct contact with the razor-sharp front axle, the air suspension and Active Ride electronic controls keep the body almost level, and the rear steering wheel ensures good agility, despite the Taycan’s very high weight. The new Pirelli P Zero R tires, developed specifically for the Turbo GT, also do a great job. Optionally, you can even opt for the new P Zero Trofeo RS bodywork. The only criticism we have for sporty driving: the brakes are not always easy to adjust. The pedal gives a less natural feel than in a Porsche with a combustion engine, as the regenerative braking system also participates. For others: hats off… or in this case, umbrellas off!

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT 2024 price

The performance and efficiency of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT chassis is amazing, but so is its price: 257,194 euros. The Weissach package is free, but there are still many more expensive options available. On dry roads you must also budget enough for tires and brakes…

High judgment

To be honest, the thought of driving a car with more than 1,000 hp and 1,340 Nm of torque on a wet track gave us equal parts joy and stress… But we got out without a sweat! This is due to the amazing efficiency of this electric sports car, which again testifies to the technological know-how of the Zuffenhausen brand. That being said, such a power mount is completely useless on public roads. The Turbo GT is the very first ‘halo car’, an image builder. But one that flies so fast…
