Power: David Alonso sets the pace Friday / Moto3

Fastest in free practice, first place in the afternoon – American Doctor is going perfectly for David Alonso so far. The surprise of the first day is rookie Angel Piqueras in third place.

The Moto3 field got off to a rocky start in the second half when all of the MSI team’s KTM machines left the track. After a few kilometers, Ryusei Yamanaka managed to knock out last year’s winner and take out his teammate Ivan Ortola on the downhill.

When the yellow flags were lowered again in the first sector, David Alonso regained composure. After constant improvements, the young CFMOTO star was soon in front with a solid lead of 0.6 seconds. Collin Veijer also made great progress as the first tracker on his identical 250cc Husqvarna.

Just how good Ivan Ortola is in Texas was shown in the final stretch of a crucial training session. Just 20 minutes since his crash, the #48 had the best comeback yet: first place. But that wasn’t the end of the day in Austin. Alonso once again managed to improve the long way in Austin. In his final lap he significantly beat his best time again and finished the first day as the fastest in training. Ortola was pushed back to fifth place.

José Antonio Rueda was not a surprise in second place, which cannot be said about the young man in third place. Honda driver Angel Piqueras is one of the newcomers to the field and his debut at the iconic track is amazing. With Australian Jacob Roulstone, the second qualifier made it into the top ten in seventh place. No significant increase was possible for the only German-speaking athlete. 25th place for Noah Dettwiler from near Basel.

Tomorrow 26 drivers have another chance to put themselves in the best position to qualify for the USA Moto3 GP.
