Pramac stays – Jorge Martin goes – Yamaha comes? / MotoGP

Part of Yamaha’s return to MotoGP is building a second team. Pramac Racing is discussed as a paid partner. One thing is also certain: Jorge Martin will not sit on the M1.

During the second MotoGP weekend in Portugal, all questions from the public about Jorge Martin’s future career remained unanswered. With a poker face and empty rhetoric, all the words of the media to the leaders of the league failed.

In the USA the situation is different. In the mixed situation surrounding Yamaha’s commitment to MotoGP and related efforts, a new force has emerged.

In addition to the technical activities on the basis of Yamaha Racing and the greater commitment of Fabio Quartararo, the Japanese factory will have to fight to return to the race for victory through the integration with the satellite team.

In terms of numbers, the Pramac Racing Team, which has been closely associated with Ducati for years, is Yamaha’s flagship team. Although the constellation is more than trials and tribulations, it is also deadlocked. Pramac Racing is coming. The team around manager Gino Borsoi and owner Paolo Campinoti has been supporting the factory team from Bologna for years at the highest possible level. The partnership is clearly defined and there will be no reason not to continue beyond 2024 – if both parties are satisfied with the distribution of responsibilities. But if Campinoti wants to break out of the shadow of being the first of the three suppliers and position itself as the exclusive factory partner, then the Yamaha tie-up makes sense.

With the right budget, a Pramac-Yamaha Racing merger could result in a classic win-win situation. Yamaha would have an accelerator of development and advanced expertise – Pramac would have a new economic and personal incentive – and Ducati would get rid of an additional team. What seems silly loses its edge in reality. Of course, Ducati really appreciates the partnership, but along with Gresini and VR46 there are other capable partners on board. And – the goal is that at the end of the season the number one will stick to the factory race. The biggest winner of this exciting constellation will be the sport itself. The redistribution of power could further increase the competitiveness of MotoGP.

In Austin, Jorge Martin was approached about a possible ride in 2025 by Pramac Yamaha. An open question was followed by an equally open rejection. Jorge Martin: “I plan my future career with Ducati and if there is a change from Pramac to Yamaha, then I will not ride there.”
“Martinator” reiterated: “My goal is to drive for the factory team next year and I’m fighting for that.”

This makes it clear: Jorge Martin sees himself as the successor of Enea Bastianini in 2025, or if he is beaten by “La Bestia” at the World Cup, which is not in the head of the Spaniard, as the successor of Aleix Espargaro. in April. But his resignation is nothing but a done deal.

In addition to the exciting day-to-day racing on the slopes, the MotoGP circus also remains in constant motion. As soon as the engines are started, discussions will continue in the team’s truck control rooms.
