Rebelles M11-AA Chevrolet Cup Champions

The Chevrolet Cup competition got off to a rough start for the young players from Jeanne and Saguenay. After two close games, they really found themselves in hot water, facing elimination, having taken the “losing” side of the table. To turn that around, the women’s team had no choice but to perform well for the remainder of the weekend.

Victory after victory, young hockey players ended up believing. By defeating the Sherbrooke team 4 to 0, by defeating the club from Bas-Saint-Laurent 1 to 0 and by defeating a difficult formation from Chaudière-Ouest with 3 to 2 points, the Rebels reached the finals. The fight promised to be close and it was.

After three frustrating and tense periods without a goal being scored, the two teams went into overtime that could not break the tie. It was therefore essential that the winner of the M11-AA women’s category be decided in a shootout. The Rebels goalkeeper, Mikaella Tremblay, was solid in front of her posts to stop the opponents’ first attempt. Then, as an assist, teammate Marianne Ranou scored as the first shooter for Jeanne and Saguenéen.

Then, netminder Mikaella Tremblay did it again to equalize the Lac St-Louis Warriors second baseman’s attempt. The pressure was heavy on Juliette April’s shoulders. With a goal, he could end hostilities and see his people win everything. He moved forward, stunned and outmaneuvered his opponent before seeing the puck win his attention. Immediately, the parents in the Rebel camp jumped for joy. Their daughters had won the Chevrolet Cup.

It’s a story

When called after the match, the head coach of the Rebelles team, Frédéric Dubé was proud of the progress made by his players.

“They showed character. They did not give up. This is to their credit. We are proud of them, especially considering the efforts and sacrifices made on the river.

During the season, players playing for the Rebelles U11-AA played games with their civilian teams, in each city. Once every three weeks, young hockey players gathered to practice together. Two tournaments were also played in recent months. This allowed players to get the real context of the match.

“We have people who have driven hours and hours to come to training. The region is huge and since we needed players from all over to make the team, some parents had to make a lot of sacrifices. Their love for hockey, their dedication to their daughters was amazing. Outside of the times when the team was assembled, the girls followed the plan they were given to develop. They have really made progress and it’s thanks to the focus and effort they put in,” added the Rebels pilot.

Parents and players took pictures before the match, during a short warm-up session. It was a memorable time of their stay at Mercier.

The end of the Rebelles M11-AA season is definitely one that will remain etched in the memory. Regardless, it was a very happy group of hockey players and parents who left Mercier at the end of a great hockey weekend.
