Two qualifying sessions for the second round of the GT2 European Series took place at the Red Bull Ring. Twice the Audi R8 LMS GT2 proved to be the fastest, but unfortunately in both cases it was not a copy of PK Carsport. Peter Guelinckx set the sixth fastest time in the first session, while Stienes Longin had to settle for the fifth fastest time in the second session. Pole position went to LP Racing twice.

Nicolas Saelens looked to be on his way to the first race in the KTM X-Bow GT2 Real Racing with a time of 1:31.050, but at the end of the session Henry Hassid did better by closing in 1:30,984. Third fastest went to Klaus Angerhofer in another True Racing KTM, he was also fastest in the Am class. Jan Krabec (RTR Projects KTM X-Bow GT2) and Jörg Viebahn (HRT Mercedes-AMG GT2) completed the top five.
In the second qualifying session, Pierre Kaffer in another LP Racing Audi ventured with a time of 1:29.774. He was 0.053 seconds faster than Reinhard Kofler (True Racing X-Bow GT2) and 0.182 seconds faster than Stefan Rosina (True Racing X-Bow GT2). Fourth time went to Benjamin Ricci in the new Mercedes-AMG GT2 of Team Akkodis ASP. Longin scored the top five.
