Sebastian Reitsma: the young hope of the Netherlands / Ice Speedway GP

Along with Jasper Iwema, Sebastian Reitsma is becoming a big talent in the Netherlands. The son of Simon Reitsma took part in three races in Heerenveen and reached the podium once.

Successful local heroes ensure good conditions and Dutch speedway pilots Jasper Iwema and Sebastian Reitsma achieved this at the Heerenveen race. If Iwema is already considered established in the World Cup, Reitsma, originally drafted as a wildcard and then entered the field through the substitute list, was able to start in the World Cup race as well as the Roelof Thijs Cup.

Reitsma started the race for the Roelof Thijs Cup in second place and would have won if he had led to the finish. “In the final, my hands were heavier and heavier, and then Jasper passed me,” the Dutchman recalled on Friday evening.

On Saturday and Sunday we returned to the ice, this time at the World Cup arena, where participation in the finals was absolutely impossible. But young Reitsma still had music and had to live through two amazing times.

First, Reitsma lost his seat on the run “It’s really hard, but I got a few bruises and it was a crazy ride with a few hits,” Reitsma said, describing what it’s like to ride on ice without a seat.

Worse, he stopped the motorcycle before starting to run again, which made the mechanic’s staff jump and jump on the motorcycle. Reiitsma: “It was a very long two minutes for me and I’m glad that the mechanics were ready quickly enough because it was my own fault. I was still in second gear and the bike stalled at the start of the test.”

At the end of the long weekend in Heerenveen, the Dutchman had a total of 16 races to his name, second in the Roelof Thijs Cup and 11th and 13th in the World Championship.

Sebastian Reitsma: «The Roelof-Thijs Cup is special because it was always a dream to be on the podium in this race and I am very happy about it. Five points in the World Championship on Saturday was also a very good result for me and Sunday was another great race to finish off a great weekend.
