Ryder Begins Rental Offering of BrightDrop Zevo 600 Electric Vehicles


The Ryder system has distributed its first BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric vans that are available for rent at four Ryder locations in three states: California, Texas and New York.

To introduce the new EV, Ryder hosted Ride & Drive events for customers, showcasing the BrightDrop pickup trucks and ChargePoint EV chargers, the release said. Customers had the opportunity to see the power, safety and efficiency of the vehicles and learn more about Ryder’s fleet investments and strategic plans with EV and charging manufacturers.

BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric vehicles offer a range of up to 250 miles and can support payloads of 1,460 pounds to 2,450 pounds, depending on the version. They have a capacity of 615 cubic feet.

By adding BrightDrop EVs to its fleet offerings, Ryder aims to help companies of all sizes transition to electricity, according to a press release. Electrifying commercial ships can reduce emissions without sacrificing range, safety or performance.

Ryder’s rental fleet not only includes its new BrightDrop Zevos but also other EV options, the release said. The company supports these vehicles with simple car insurance, round-the-clock roadside assistance, single-source maintenance, geo-tagging for tracking and monitoring of vehicle usage and other services.

The charging infrastructure at Ryder stations is powered by ChargePoint, a provider of network hardware and software solutions for EV charging on a per-emission basis. Additionally, public charging stations are available to provide accessible charging options, enabling longer journeys and greater flexibility.

The trucking industry is undergoing major changes resulting from the increased adoption of electric vehicles and the digitization of supply chain processes and equipment, Jordan Wagnervice president and general manager at Torque and Ryderhe told PYMNTS in an interview posted in July.

The increased use of EVs in commercial environments will help accelerate and modernize the industry’s ways of doing business, Wagner added.
