Lincoln Pius X baseball wins the Monarch Invite, and other Saturday highlights


The Lincoln Pius X baseball team won the Monarch Invite at Papillion-La Vista on Saturday by defeating then-No. 6 Monarchs 11-9.

The Thunderbolts held off a comeback after leading 11-3 after the top of the seventh. The Monarchs had two runners on base but struck out in their final at-bat.

Pius X (8-12) had 11 hits, including two by Cade Vanis, Ian Woita and Preston Utemark. Thunderbolt pitcher Drew Drake got the win on the mound, giving up six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Lincoln Southeast had 10 hits and defeated Gretna 4-3 in the seventh game of the tournament. Alex Wilhelm led Southeast by going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Spartan Invitational: Class A No. 8 Lincoln Southwest placed third in the Lincoln East Invitational by beating Lincoln North Star 7-6.

After the fourth round, the game calmed down as the attackers and defenders kept the other team scoreless.

Trent Buda led the Silver Hawks (13-8) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Braeden Sunken led Lincoln North Star by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Lincoln Christian 4, Lincoln Northwest 3: Class C No. 2 Lincoln Christian won a tight game against Lincoln Northwest with the Crusader stealing home plate in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs on the board.

Caleb Dewitt led the Crusaders at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double, while pitcher Grant DeHaan got the win on the mound.

TRACK AND FIELD

MUDECAS CHAMPIONSHIP:Â Parkview Christian had a few event winners at the MUEDECAS Invitational on Saturday.

On the girls’ side, Maria Pastrelo won the 400 meters race (1 minute, 2.13 seconds).

On the boys side, Alex Rohrbaugh won the long jump (20 feet, 4¼ inches) and triple jump (43-5½), and Terance Pittman won the 200 (:22.87).
