Subaru WRX 2024: not one but two new versions

It’s not just the RS that’s being added to the Canadian Subaru WRX lineup for 2024. We’re also getting a new version called the GT. The company also gives us today the details and the price, which is up $1,000 compared to 2023.

Let’s start at the bottom of the scale with the WRX manual at $33,695. Even this is now entitled to EyeSight driver assistance technology (adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane-departure and lane-departure alert, cross-traffic re-start alert). It also comes standard with a 7-inch dual-touchscreen infotainment system, automatic LED headlights, 17-inch performance exhaust and 17-inch alloy wheels.

What? need we remind you about the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine hiding under the hood and its air intake? This develops 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm.

Next comes the Sport version with a manual transmission that has a starting price of $38,195. On the outside, we see LED fog lights, a low front spoiler and 18-inch wheels. The interior is upgraded with an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen media system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not to mention SUBARU STARLINK connected services (three-year free trial).

The continuously variable automatic transmission option costs an extra $1,900 but also comes with automatic reverse braking, a torque converter box differential and an electronic parking brake, among other things.

RS and GT

At the heart of the 2024 Subaru WRX lineup, the new RS version with the manual transmission we’ve already told you about increases performance and speed, especially on the circuit. Priced at $41,895, it has six-piston Brembo brakes at the front and two-piston rear brakes with large pads and perforated discs. The suspension takes custom settings and the shock absorbers have also been upgraded with 19-inch wheels, the latter shod with more bite-sized Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires.

The rack-and-pinion steering has been recalibrated to improve steering feel. The driver can enjoy in a black and gray Recaro sports seat with Ultrasuede inserts and reinforced side support. By the way, this is the only WRX you can get in the new Sapphire Blue Pearl color.

For $100 more, there’s a Sport-tech version, which still has a manual transmission. But let’s focus on another new feature of the 2024, the WRX GT. Replacing the previous Sport-tech and automatic transmission, this version includes unique electronically variable dampers with a Drive Mode Select function and four preset modes as well as a customizable individual mode. This allows you to vary the settings of the suspension, steering, wheel drive and power according to the preferences of the driver.

Here, the wheels measure 18 inches and have a unique matte gray color, while the climate control system gets a humidity sensor. Price? Inventory $44,895. By the way, in all cases the applicable fee of $ 2,545 is not included.
