The driver is sentenced to one year in prison. Four men died in this accident

One year in jail, suspended for three years and banned from driving for four years. A similar penalty was imposed by the Świecko Court against the driver who caused a fatal accident in Niewieścin last May. Four men died in it.

On Wednesday (May 23), we learned the decision of the District Court in Świecie for Krzysztof K., the driver accused of causing an accident in which four residents of the Elbląg district died. The tragedy happened on May 16 last year in Niewieścien (Świecie commune) on the national road number 5.

In the hearing on May 23, 2023, the Court decided: the defendant, according to Art. 177 § 2 of the Penal Code in relation to (causing a serious traffic accident – editor’s note), provides a penalty of 1 year imprisonment. According to Article. 69 § 1 and 2 of the Penal Code, Art. 70 § 1 point 1 of the Penal Code, the implementation of a conditional sentence suspends the accused for a period of 3 (three) years as a probationary period.

The man was sentenced to 1 year in prison, suspended for 3 years. The period of pre-trial detention (from May 16, 2022 to August 9, 2022) was imposed on the prescribed sentence of imprisonment, if his order is issued. In addition, he was banned from driving for 4 years. The court also ordered him to pay the victims and the families of the deceased a total of PLN 87,000. zlotys. The judgment is not final.

Let us remind you. The tragedy happened on May 16 last year on the S5 expressway in Niewieścin (Świecie poviat). Four cars collided there. Ford Transit, which was used by residents of Elbląg poviat: Wojciech, Janusz, Bartosz and Jan, found itself among the following trucks: Volvo with semi-trailer and aggregates and MAN. Their car was literally crushed by them. The men died instantly. The 53-year-old driver of the Volvo (resident of Toruń poviat) was transported to the hospital with injuries. The 46-year-old driver of the Mana and the 36-year-old driver of the Peugeot were not injured.
