The first electric muscle car has a strange gimmick

The Americans have pulled back the curtain on the new Dodge Charger. That symbolic name is more appropriate than ever, because for the first time muscle car also available as an EV. The electric car has amazing maneuverability.

Well, it will take some getting used to for Americans. Of course, EV brands like Tesla and Lucid (see our test drive here) have their roots in the US, but these are primarily cars for the tech-savvy crowd who have already embraced the transition to electric driving. The average Dodge driver generally seems to be more conservative.

Dodge Charger as an electric muscle car

The group first saw an electric pick-up from their favorite Ram. This is now an independent pickup brand that was inextricably linked to Dodge until 2009. This electric charger, which is available as a coupe and a sedan, is now the second bitter pill.

However, what exactly can those who dare to embrace the change expect from the new Dodge Charger EV? 496 of electricity horse power in the R/T variant and a whopping 680 hp in the more powerful Scat Pack version. But there is a catch. The electric motor only produces this high power when you push the ‘accelerator pedal’ all the way down and press the so-called PowerShot button. In addition, these first copies have repair facilities. Later models, unless you tick the same optional set, will provide less power.

Performance of the new EV

Either way, power goes to all wheels. The most powerful variant sprints from 0 to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 3.3 seconds, the least powerful version takes 4.7 seconds. If that’s not fast enough for you, you’ll have to wait until next year, when a more powerful EV variant of the Dodge Charger will appear.

The electric car carries a massive 100.5 kWh battery pack, bringing the weight to a terrifying 2,650 kg. It’s not what you’d expect from a seemingly lightweight sports car. What you expect from a real American muscle car, is a high usage. The EV lives up to those expectations, because the new Dodge Charger isn’t that bad. Despite its larger battery pack, the Scat Pack variant has a range of only 418 km. With the less powerful version of the R/T you can go even further, i.e. 510 km.

That’s not the only aspect where the Dodge Charger R/T blows the most powerful version of the Scat Pack. The R/T also has a higher top speed: 220 km/h versus 216 km/h. But hey, that difference won’t be the deciding factor.

Amazing stunts on an electric car

Muscle cars generally known for their roaring V8 engines. Something that is clearly missing in an electric car. But Dodge has come up with a solution for that. EVs make noise. Dodge’s new supercharger plays a tune that should sound as loud as the famous Hellcat. muscle car)

We assume that this is only audible inside the interior, otherwise Dodge will have to install decent speakers on the outside. It is not yet known what that sound actually sounds like. Well, the question is whether Dodge will be able to convince the old guard.
