The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup is a lightweight electric racing car

(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is pulled to the race track. And that in a new race series. It will be called the eN1 class and will consist of sprint races and live knockout duels. This is based on the existing N1 class that the Hyundai Elantra competes with. However, this is not limited to one manufacturer or one tire dealer.

The first electric N model receives various changes compared to the road car to make it suitable for the track. First of all, a racing car loses a lot of weight. Compared to the 5 N with license plates, which has a good weight of 2,250 kg, the eN1 Cup car weighs around 275 kg. The latter is 1,970 kg – despite the addition of wide fenders and a large rear wing.

To get rid of the pounds, the car was given a hood made of plastic glass fibers and polycarbonate panels. There are also 18-inch forged wheels with attractive tires and a gutted interior with only one racing seat.

Although the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car has been put on a strict diet, it comes with many accessories that are not available on the production car. The Koreans put a roll box approved by the FIA, a fire extinguishing system and an emergency stop button.

More changes compared to that Ioniq 5 N road car it’s a convertible chassis with the relocation of the charging port to the rear. Of course, the fake sound of the combustion engine is also preserved in racing cars. Teams can even choose their favorite voice. The Race Cup will have an artificial gear change (N e-Shift) as well as the so-called N Grin Boost, which provides full power for ten seconds.

As usual, two electric motors produce an output of 650 hp. The 84 kWh battery is also from the production car. Further performance data is not yet known. But the 0-100km/h sprint time should drop to three seconds from 3.4 seconds on the road car, thanks to the reduced weight.

The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup can be seen in action for the first time on April 27 during the 2024 Hyundai N Festival at the Inje Speedium in South Korea. The new eN1 class will hold an official training session there. There will be a total of ten races this year.
