The four round lights turned into four thin LED strips. Grill it still has the typical BMW shape, but it is so wide that it can still be called “kidney”. It looks more like butterfly wings or an infinity sign. The new BMW 7 Series has the same theme as its predecessor 35 years ago when the V12 version debuted in the range, but their interpretation is completely different.

What? does the grill have to be that big? It is necessary, because it has a magical effect on the height of sales bars. The bigger it is, the higher they climb. Some customers turned up their noses when they saw the predecessor presented in 2015 (factory code: G11 / G12). In their opinion, the car did not have the glory of the “seven”. Therefore, in the first event – i.e. the facelift of 2019 – the grill increased by 40 percent, which also increased sales. In the new, seventh generation of the BMW 7 Series (code G70), the grill has increased. Not only that, its edges are highlighted.

The grill can seem more powerful, since the surrounding lights are very small. These two stripes are at the same time LED for daytime driving and indicators, and for an additional fee, LEDs can illuminate Swarovski crystals. The headlights are “hidden” underneath and look more like air intakes than lights. Such a 2nd-level lighting system will not go to all BMWs, but only to luxury ones, including the updated X7, the top XM SUV and the next 8 series.

Indeed, the new 7 Series is the best and at the same time the most attractive “seven” ever. For the first time since 1987, there is only one body version in the range. While 35 years ago there was no extended version, now there will be no basic version, because the extended BMW 7 series is a new standard. And what! The seventh generation can have even 22-inch rims, moreover, it is 539 cm long, 195 cm wide and more than 154 cm high. Compared to the extended version of its predecessor, it is 13 cm longer (surprisingly, the engine cover is slightly shortened), about 5 cm wider and longer. Where did these extra centimeters come from? Exactly.

Electric BMW 7 Series

The large grill not only emphasizes the status of the model and its position in the range, but also shows strength. Precisely, because it is a record-breaker in the history of the BMW 7 Series. The top variant will develop 660 hp, 50 hp more than the 12-cylinder version of the previous “seven”.

The new BMW 7 Series owes its 660 hp electric drive, as well as 5 cm long extra blades – it was somehow needed to fit the nearly 700 kg battery.

The new model will be the first “seven” in 35 years not available with a V12. The last production BMW with a 12-cylinder engine – and one of the six-series variants of the 7th generation – will be built in June 2022. From now on, the BMW V12 concern will only be available in selected Rolls-Royce vehicles.

Not only that, in Poland, the new BMW 7 Series will not be available in a version powered by a petrol engine only (although this may change over time). So what kind of new “seven” appear in our country? It will have five types:

  1. 740d xDrive: diesel engine; R6 turbo; cc 2,993; 300 hp; 670 Nm; 0-100 km / h: 6.3 seconds
  2. 750e xDrive: Hybrid with 2,998 cc R6 petrol engine and electric unit; 490 hp; 700 Nm; 0-100 km / h: 4.9 sec
  3. M760e xDrive: Hybrid with 2,998 cc R6 petrol engine. and electrical unit; hp 571; 800 Nm; 0-100 km / h: 4.3 seconds
  4. i7 xDrive60: an electric car with two motors; battery with a capacity of 101.7 kWh; hp 544; 745 Nm; 0-100 km / h: 4.7 sec; distance: 590-625 km
  5. i7 M70 xDrive: electric car with two motors; 660 hp; more than 1000 Nm; 0-100 km / h: less than 4.0 seconds

The new BMW 7 Series is based on an improved version of the largest variant of the CLAR platform, the GKL. It will also go to the BMW XM, the top SUV from this manufacturer expected this year.

31-inch screen on the BMW 7 Series

Hans Zimmer has composed music for films such as “Nie Czas dyać” (the latest James Bond adventure), “The Lion King”, “Interstellar”, “Inception” and the first two parts of “Madagascar”. Now he has written the soundtrack to which the film precedes: a short clip by Hans Zimmer is accompanied by a large 31.3-inch screen that slides out of the headliner, on which the passengers in the back seats can watch what they like, for example, “The Lion”. King”.

The screen displays images in aspect ratios of 16: 9 and 32: 9, inclusive. in 8K resolution, and surround sound comes from Bowers & Wilkins speakers.

What else can the new BMW 7 Series destroy? For example, with nine massage programs for the front and rear seats, 4-zone climate control and pneumatic suspension. The seventh generation “seven” obviously has the eighth generation of the BMW iDrive system and a curved panel that hides a 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen and a 14.9-inch central display. The air vents are better hidden than the light covers – they are arranged above and below the long horizontal strip of the cockpit.

The seventh generation of the BMW 7 Series will make its debut in Poland on December 3, 2022. Then a new era will begin: BMW’s luxury sedan with a large number of six cylinders.
