With the new CX-80, Mazda completes its current wide crossover portfolio. Pre-sales of Mazda’s new top model with a length of almost five meters and three rows of seats will start on May 7. The model will go on sale in the autumn. The starting price of the CX-80 e-Skyactiv PHEV in the Exlusive Line equipment line is 55,350 euros.

With its new flagship, the Japanese manufacturer is targeting buyers who value generous space. The crossover has room for up to seven passengers. Three different seating configurations are available with six or seven seats. The second row of seats differs. The seven-seater variant is equipped with a 40:60 split bench seat in the second row. In six-seat versions, the Mazda CX-80 has a configuration called “captain’s seat” and two individual seats. The standard third row of seats in the Mazda CX-80 has two folding seats per person in all versions. Mazda designed the rear door cutouts to make access as easy as possible.

When it comes to driving, customers can choose between a 241 kW/327 hp hybrid drive with an electric range of 60 km and a 3.3 liter six-cylinder diesel engine with 187 kW/254 hp. A third car that was also originally planned, a six-cylinder petrol engine, is not coming. Bernhard Kaplan, Managing Director of Mazda Germany, insists that this engine would play only a minor role.

The diesel and plug-in hybrids are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and mated to Mazda’s all-wheel drive system as standard. This basically drives the rear wheels and supplies the front wheels with varying torque depending on the driving conditions and driving conditions.

Mazda has placed great emphasis on good all-round visibility in its new model: the front areas of the car that are hidden by the body are made visible by the 360-degree tracking and visual function. Also worth mentioning is the so-called “trailer hitch sight function”. It makes hooking up a trailer easy by displaying it on the 12.3-inch central infotainment screen. Thanks to the trailer load of up to 2,500 kg, some buyers will use this function.

Also on board is the so-called driver personalization system, which Mazda used for the first time on the Mazda CX-60. It uses a camera to detect who is sitting in the driver’s seat and automatically adjusts the seating position, steering wheel, mirror, head-up display and even audio and climate settings for body type or individually saved configurations. A smartphone can be connected wirelessly to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. New Alexa voice control is also on board.

The new assistance systems include help for distracted drivers and frontal collision protection from emergency brake assist. This is intended to reduce collisions with oncoming vehicles. Also new is the avoidance assistant that helps avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles. The new rear seat occupancy warning also alerts the driver when exiting the vehicle about objects or passengers that may still be in the back seats. As with other Mazda models, the CX-80 also comes with a six-year manufacturer’s warranty.
