Toyota and Subaru launch a new generation of their sports car


The sports car that Toyota Motor Corp. and Subaru Corp. being developed together is a great success, so the cooperation will continue.

The two companies announced that they will launch the next generation of the jointly developed sports car later this year.

Sports cars will be launched in summer and autumn

Equipped with a new, more powerful engine, the Toyota GR86 it will go on sale in the Japanese market in autumn 2021. Subaru’s BRZ, on the other hand, will be launched in the summer. Pricing was not revealed at the online event to launch the models.

Toyota and Subaru, which made a joint venture in 2005, launched the first model in 2012 under the two brand names, making it one of the most popular sports cars in Japan.

Designs distinguish models from Toyota and Subaru

The updated rear-wheel drive boasts increased acceleration and a larger displacement of 2.4 liters instead of 2.0 liters and reaches 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds, 1.1 seconds faster than its predecessor.

The two Japanese automakers said the GR 86 and BRZ share the same underpinnings, but design details give each model a different feel.

The cars will be manufactured at the Subaru factory in Japan.
