Unlimited Power: The History of Lamborghini

Lamborghini’s history is characterized by the tension between visionary cars and economy. Today Lamborghini stands for uncompromising sports cars.

The Lamborghini story begins without a sports car

Today the Lamborghini name is closely associated with high-end sports cars. However, the beginning of the brand was in a different sector.

  • It was founded in 1948 Ferruccio Lamborghini Lamborghini Trattori company in Italy. The company produces tractors, originally also from surplus military vehicles. A decade later, climate systems were also added.
  • In 1963 Lamborghini founded the company Automobili Lamborghini. The trademark, the cow, has remained unchanged to this day and is known throughout the world. In the same year, Lamborghini’s first sports car, the Lamborghini 350 GTV, was introduced.
  • In 1966, Lamborghini put itself in a good position: With the Miura, the company brought a sports car to the market that came closer to the 300 km/h mark than any car before it. Car names after famous cows also appear in the Miura. The tradition still exists today and is limited to only four cars.

Lamborghini as part of Volkswagen

Lamborghini is one of the biggest Italian car brands. However, the company changed hands several times and is now part of the Volkswagen Group.

  • In the 1970s, Lamborghini’s economic situation worsened. On the one hand, this is due to the oil crisis. On the other hand, Lamborghini tried to offer affordable sports cars with the Urraco model. However, significant sales do not occur.
  • Since 1972, Lamborghini has gone through several owners. However, in 1990, the Diablo made a sensation: Lamborghini brought the fastest production car on the road at that time, with a top speed of 325 km/h.
  • In 1998 it was taken over by Audi and thus became part of the Volkswagen Group. After taking, the variety will be expanded: more models, lower amount.
  • This is followed by models such as the Murciélago, Aventador, Huracan. With the Urus, Lamborghini has also been represented among SUVs since 2018. Since 2019, the Sîan model has reached a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
