CONFIG – One way trip to Japan with our Mazda MX-5!

Mazda MX-5 is a true legend of the automotive industry. It doesn’t have a V12 or a V10, but it makes up for it with its own personality and playability that is recognized around the world. We’ve just made a copy of it, to attack the small winding roads of Mount Fuji! Ok almost…

Ah, the Mazda MX-5. Japanese little fickle, the icon of the whole country! This sports car has won the hearts of lovers to bring together an entire community of fans, for the 4 generations it has known. Today, don’t you dare say anything bad about the MX-5 in public, purists are lurking everywhere and they’re hard to hear. But how can you blame them, after all, this little car is so cute.

While all the manufacturers are racing to see who can fit the most horses under the hood of their sports car, Mazda sticks to its positions and retains the small 2.0 petrol inline 4 cylinder, making 184 horsepower. A technical sheet that can make you smile, we give you that, until we discover the total weight of the car: more than 1 ton! All with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which sends power to the rear wheels only. A great recipe for turning a sarcastic smile into a happy smile, right behind the wheel!

We could choose the coupe version, but we would never enjoy driving with our hair in the wind…

A small catalog of options

Mazda offers its MX-5 in 4 trim levels, the first being charged at 33,000 euros for all sides. We chose the Homura version, which costs 43,500 euros, so more expensive. However, this includes various and different modifications, such as interior ambient lighting, automatic air conditioning, LED lights, rear parking assist, Bose Hi-Fi with 9 speakers or Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. But you don’t buy an MX-5 for all that. We were rather convinced by the 17-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and Recaro seats in leather and Alcantara.

Compact, light, reasonably strong and, above all, not hit by a high ecological penalty!

For the color, we chose Soul Red Crystal for 950 euros. Besides, to be honest, we don’t understand why Mazda offers another color, given that red is your absolute choice.

For other options, we chose to add the Aero Kit for 2,052.22 euros. This includes the front blade, the discreet spoiler on the trunk, the side skirts as well as the rear bumper extension. We left the windshield in the original color, i.e. black, while choosing the arches in aluminum color. This little dream costs 226.31 euros. We also added a clear glass shell, for 181.57 euros.

What fun: needle counters, one screen… The perfect recipe!

Finally, as a sports car, we couldn’t miss the sports exhaust. Priced at 1,076.23 euros, this allows you to get in sound but also in style, thanks to its stainless steel coating.

CHOICE PRICE
Teinte Soul Red Crystal 950 euros
Aero Seat Euro 2.052,22
Rollbar reduction 226,31 euros
Exterior glass covers 181,57 euros
Sports fatigue Euro 1.076,23

But what is this mania for putting prices in commas?

So we reach a total score of 47,986.33 euros, including 4,486.33 euros of options. But the good news is that thanks to its low CO2 emissions, our Mazda MX-5 only incurs an ecological penalty of 2,726 euros! Which allows to display a price slightly above 50,000 euros, a real bargain in these times! Besides, if the government wants to pay attention, we’ve got an example that hasn’t worked yet…
