Vince’s Dodge van with a 5.9-liter V8 is his classic dream car

Vince Smits bought a Dodge and makes it look great. He should: have decided to enjoy it for at least 10 years.

I started playing at a young age. I have worked at Honda, in a Fiat/Alfa Romeo garage, Volkswagen, Mazda and for a while in refrigerated transport platforms and aerospace work. When I was at Mazda I drove a 929 Legato that was less than a year old, a beautiful, luxurious car.

Dodge van

This Dodge B200 sportster has been in the Netherlands for two years now, I’ve had it for a year and a half. So there was a Dutch owner before me. I still have the original ad that the bus was for sale. It was too expensive for me at the time, so I didn’t take it. During that time, I looked online almost every day to see what was on sale and when I hadn’t done it for a day, I saw that the same bus was offered for the second time. The first buyer wanted to convert it into a camper, but his wife didn’t like that. But I was late, there were already two people who had answered earlier.

I was promised that I would be called if the first two dropped out, but I thought: that won’t work anymore, that’s done. But the first one didn’t happen and the second one didn’t give enough money, so I looked for it. It was well advertised and maintained, but that was disappointing. I actually drove it and it started, ran and drove fine, but there were dents here and there and nothing worked like it should. When you stepped on the brakes, the pedal slowly sank, you could clearly hear the wheel bearings, the parts were missing and the speedometer on the dashboard worked. But the highlights were good.

So there were negatives, but everything that was wrong with it was fixed and I’m ready to use cars because I’ve been a mechanic for a long time. Electrically speaking, older Americans are often a mess, all kinds of things have happened to them. But this was still completely natural. I also immediately noticed that the car was very fast. When you look in the wheel wells you just see the same color as the rest of the Dodge without any tectyl on it, very neat underside. And for example, the door trim has never been cut.

I wonder where the Dodge car came from, at least it’s always been dry. I knew it was him, my name tag was on it. So I bid and got the car for a good price. The gas fitting was recently installed and I went to see what needed to be replaced. I wanted to have a proper bus that would last me 10 years.
